Jessica Simpson’s… Craving
Jessica Simpson has long been teasing new music. She’s now single, she’s motivated, and the new EP, Nashville Canyon: Part 1, is coming March 21. The first single from the EP, “Use My Heart Against Me” drops this Friday.
She posted a preview last week.
And today, an exclusive with PEOPLE about the song and its inspiration. For the gossips out there, are you thinking what I’m thinking? Because this is what she said “Use My Heart Against Me” is about:
"I woke up with that lyric in my head. It’s kind of craving someone that you want again and you don’t care if your heart is used against you – if it’s just for one night. Like, give it over, just for the experience again."
Girl.
No.
Not him, please not him. Every time I’ve written about Jessica since it was looking more and more likely that she and Eric Johnson were over, I’ve made the same note: John Mayer, leave her alone. But what if... she can’t leave him alone?!?
This, obviously, is a gossip assumption. Jessica’s not saying and likely won’t say if she had anyone in mind when she was writing her song. It’s just that if you followed the course of their relationship, and read her memoir Open Book (one of the best celebrity memoirs on the market), you know the hold he used to have on her and finally cut him off only after the “sexual napalm” interview. For a while though, too long, he had her. He f-cked with her head, it was constantly a battle of having to prove her intelligence to him. And it’s not like she’s been singing from experience since they split. It’s been a long, long, LONG ass time that she’s been storing up these memories, these experiences. Now that she’s putting them to song, part of the game – and it’s been this way since Carly Simon and before – has been wondering who the songs are about.
This, then, is a smart tease from her before the drop on Friday. Not the kind of sound I typically f-ck with, but now I’m even more intrigued.
