Margot Robbie in a onesie
Margot Robbie will only be in one film this year and it’s happened already. We saw in January and February when she was promoting Emerald Fennell’s “Wuthering Heights” and then, as she does, and she did after Barbie, she went back underground, keeping a low profile. Not unlike most of the stars who are at Hollywood’s highest level these days. And she’s up there – both as a producer and an actor.
The most recent gossip about her had to do with how Warner Bros can’t come to a deal with Greta Gerwig, Margot, and Ryan Gosling for the Barbie sequel and time is ticking because the rights revert back to Mattel at the end of 2026. According to the New York Times:
“The negotiations over the sequel are happening because Ms. Gerwig and her lead actors did not want language in their contracts about a sequel when they signed on to make the first “Barbie,” three people with knowledge of the talks said. Studios often push hard to include contract terms about sequels in original deals, but the studio wanted Ms. Gerwig to write and direct the movie, so Warner Bros. made a calculated risk and proceeded without a promised sequel.”
Barbie is Warner Bros highest grossing movie of all time so of course the studio wants more action but, supposedly, it’s David Zaslav who thinks the talent is asking for too much money. A studio spokesperson denies the rumour but clearly the talent is holding firm. It’s not like any of them need the work. Greta is working on Narnia, Ryan just scored big with Project Hail Mary and he still has a Star Wars coming out, and it’s just been reported that he’s joined the MCU. And Margot’s working on the Oceans prequel (a Warner Bros property) plus she’s doing the new Pirates of the Caribbean movie. At this point, if I’m their agents, the WB needs them more than they need the WB. And the best part is, per the NYT:
“Ms. Gerwig […] and her writing partner and husband, Noah Baumbach, have made it clear in negotiations that they have a story they want to tell and are ready to begin writing. This, too, is being used as a point of leverage. Warner Bros. doesn’t know what the idea is, and the pair won’t tell the studio, or begin writing, until the deal is done, the people said.”
Yes, all of these people are wealthy as f-ck so it’s not like there’s a true underdog here but if it’s a conglomerate vs creatives battle, the people who actually come up with the stories and develop the characters, the “good guy” will always be them over the corporates assholes.
Anyway, here’s Margot in Paris the other day on some down time from the Oceans prequel (which Bradley Cooper is directing and co-starring in). She’s wearing a great onesie. I call it a onesie because while I’m not exactly sure what brand she’s wearing, it looks very similar to the Free People Hot Shot Onesie (this is an affiliate link), one of the most consistently popular items in their catalogue, for years.
I bought my first Hot Shot Onesie in 2019, just before the pandemic. Instantly obsessed, and at the time they were also selling it in a long-sleeve so I got that too. And then the following year I got it in a different colourway. And another colourway the year after that. I see the Hot Shot Onesie everywhere – people walking their dog, grocery shopping, at the beach, on the plane. For a while there it was my preferred travel outfit. It’s SO comfortable, it’s so soft, it looks great – the slouch and the pockets, it’s layer-able, and it’s durable. I’ve put mine through the wash so many times and all of them hold up. Also the price point is reasonable, considering how much use you get out of it.
