The Kids’ Choice Awards took place yesterday – this is the show where they slime you for your success, and like so many award shows these days, with the exception of the BET Awards recently, many of the big names skipped it and sent video messages instead but there was one detail about Kids’ Choice that gave the event a bit of the glory that it used to have: the host.
It used to be that the Kids Choice Awards carried enough clout to attract young talent and Tyla fits the description. This was Tyla’s first major international hosting opportunity and it’s a good decision by her and her team at this point in her career.
“Water” was one of the biggest hits of 2023/24 and Tyla capped off that run with her Met Gala debut in that sand dress by Balmain that was one of the most notable looks – if not the most notable look – from an otherwise mid Met Gala. She just released her new single “Bliss” last month and the new album is supposed to drop before the end of the year. So she’s raising her profile, hosting Kids Choice but also…
With fashion?
Tyla wore Roberto Cavalli from the A/W 2000 collection which might also be why her Kids Choice appearance was giving so much nostalgia. And I feel like that’s what Law Roach was going for here in how he styled her.
Back to the glory days, right? That’s the vibe?
But if we’re talking about Tyla’s push, with the new track and the full album on the way, working with Law is probably also part of that plan. He’s the expert in putting together a wardrobe for promotion. And, as we know, he’s not just a stylist, he’s an “image architect”, so the clothes are always strategic, the clothes serve a bigger purpose. In this case, Tyla’s ready to take it to another level with her career, and trying to prove that there’s more to her than “Water”. Enlisting the help of Law Roach is a smart move.
