At the Olympics, just a few days ahead of Lunar New Year, it was an Asian sweep in women’s snowboard halfpipe yesterday and, perhaps, a passing of the torch. Chloe Kim, as we know, has been the queen of the halfpipe since Pyeongchang in 2018, repeating four years later in Beijing.

Chloe took silver yesterday, and it’s a win, because she didn’t even know if she’d be able to compete just a few weeks ago.

Chloe is of Korean descent and was just 17 years old when she won her first gold medal. Now another 17-year-old Korean is the gold medallist in this event. Choi Gaon surprised everyone when she threw down that incredible third run yesterday. When it became official that Gaon had won, Chloe went over to her right away to congratulate her, a beautiful display of graciousness by a champion who understands the value of mentorship.

Gaon is now the first South Korean woman to win an Olympic medal in snowboarding. And she did it by rebounding after a terrible fall. The New York Times just called her the “future of snowboarding” so it’s been three straight Olympics that women of Korean descent of ruled this event – and it might not stop there.

Let’s keep the Lunar New Year ride going with… Paul Rudd? LOL, allow me to explain. Many, many years ago, Paul Rudd was in a Hong Kong action movie, because you take the jobs when the jobs are offered, goddammit! Anyway, in this movie, Paul spoke Cantonese – and this video comes up now and again online for sh-ts and giggles. Since we’re celebrating an Asian holiday, it’s the perfect time to revisit it, especially for those of you who’ve never seen it before.

Not done with the Heated Rivalry mentions today because it’s NY Fashion Week and Heated Rivalry was on the runway, on Christian Siriano’s body.

Bad Bunny fans have been in shambles for weeks – not related to the Benito Bowl but his love life and whether or not he’s back together with Gabriela Berlingeri. She was seen during Grammys weekend, she was at the Benito Bowl. The speculation has been wild, fans are rumouring that they’re secretly married and/or that she’s pregnant. All we know today is that she’s with him in Argentina.

What a difference two years makes. A couple of years ago, when the term “nepo baby” entered the pop culture lexicon, most nepo babies resisted the label and tried to qualify their celebrity status separately from their famous parents. Now it seems like most nepo babies have gotten over it and are embracing the truth of it, and in Apple Martin’s case fully leaning in.

Vogue just did a photo shoot with her and posted Apple’s Beauty Secrets feature on their YouTube channel. Apple talks freely about Gwyneth Paltrow and I appreciate that she also talks freely about her blemishes, and shows them. It’s not the most interesting watch – but it is fascinating in that we’ve only know Gwyneth to be a main character, and here she becomes a supporting character in her daughter’s narrative, an unseen mom to the 21-year-old girl on camera.

Apple grew up known to the public, and as she says, it was not her choice. She also is part of a generation that grew up online, so she knows how the public perceives her. This comes up a few times during the video, and she directly addresses the speculation that she gets lip fillers. She also is quite clear about her ambitions: Apple wants to act.

As for the biggest reveal? It might be a story about her grandmother, Blythe Danner. You know that thing where GP can’t remember her co-stars? Well Blythe apparently doesn’t know names.

Michael B. Jordan was honoured at the Santa Barbara Film Festival last night. GOOD on multiple levels. Nobody needs to run away with this best actor Oscar – he should be a frontrunner! MBJ brought his mother to the event.

He just turned 39 last weekend but we’re the ones being gifted. Happy Valentine’s Day to all of us.
