JB is not at home
The World Series starts tonight as the Toronto Blue Jays, with the better record, are hosting game one against the Los Angeles Dodgers. The Fall Classic is a sports spectacle, so before the show, there’s going to be a show. But it’s now obvious that Major League Baseball did not expect that the show would be taking place in Canada and not in the United States. Because it’s Pharrell and Voices of Fire who will be performing before the game starts.

Voices of Fire will also perform the anthems, with a local Toronto orchestra joining for “Oh Canada”. An amazing opportunity for them and the Dome will be loud AF in support. That said, aside from our local musicians, pretty sure I don’t have to tell you how some of us here are receiving this announcement. And that it’s pretty clear that the Jays organisation had little part in this plan. Or the plan for game two either, which is also being played in Toronto, and it’ll be the Jonas Brothers on the field in partnership with Mastercard. The JoBros are Mastercard’s Stand Up To Cancer ambassadors, this is a worthy cause, and negotiated in the new multi-extension with MLB. But, you know, it would be nice to have more Canadian involvement on the entertainment side of the event.
Also, my next question is how it will go when the series moves to LA for games three, four, and five (if necessary) – like will they be able to customise their pre-game show with their own celebrity talent when that wasn’t entirely an option for us? Maybe nobody else cares about this and I’m just a petty bitch. Petty, by the way, is not the face that is greeting American media who’ve come here to cover the World Series.
That’s been a topic of conversation on socials with American reporters all like, oh, so Toronto’s a real city, and not a one road town? Plus, people are so lovely and kind here! And… how do you say Toronto? Here’s where I’ll work Taylor Swift into the conversation because when I went to her concert almost a year ago, here in Toronto, she said it right. It’s not Tor-on-toe, with two hard Ts. It’s the hard T off the top and you kinda run all the remaining letters together, like “Turonno” or even “Tronno”. Taylor knew, and I respect it.
Finally, I was hoping it was going to be Justin Bieber but JB was in LA last night, seen here running some errands. Not sure if the Jays have some surprises that have yet to be revealed when the game starts, like how The Weeknd narrated the pre-game hype edit before the ALCS, but hopefully we’ll be able to showcase some of our own celebrity icons during the Fall Classic.
