The White House hosted a state dinner for Japan Prime Minister Fumio Kushida and his wife Yuko last night and if he wasn’t filming his late night talk show, it would have been hilarious if Jimmy Kimmel was there, given how big mad some people got last week after he returned from Japan and remarked in his monologue on how clean it is there and what it’s like in comparison to America and, well, everywhere else.
I was in Japan for a few weeks last November and then went straight to Hong Kong and it was whiplash. In Japan I basically couldn’t wait to use the public bathrooms. In Hong Kong I was terrified of them. And that didn’t change when I came back to Canada. I take the train or the subway every day to work in Toronto and there is no way I would ever take a sh-t at a transit station. Meanwhile in Japan, I was ready to move into any train station bathroom. Like seriously if you told me to Uber Eats a meal into the bathroom at Kyoto station I’d be like, yeah, OK, ramen and gyoza or donburi?!
Anyway, while Jimmy was not at the White House for the Japan state dinner, there were other high profile guests in attendance and the cherry blossoms were everywhere, which is on track considering the time of the year. Look at this spectacular cherry blossom dress on Naomi Biden.
The guest getting the most attention for her fashion, however, is Lauren Sanchez, Kim Kardashian’s current BFF. A lace corset over a silk skirt, and a lot of cleavage.
But she too is feeling the cherry blossoms because her last post before the White House dinner was about her and Jeff Bezos’s trip to Japan. It feels like, over the last year or so, Lauren’s fashion has become more and more of a conversation. I wonder if this is intentional. Vogue kissed major Bezos ass late last year and gave them both a big ass spread in the magazine and at the time I thought about Lauren and the Met Gala and Lauren hasn’t had a Met Gala moment… yet.
Jeff Bezos has been to the Met Gala, but that was in 2019, not too long after it first broke that they were dating so I would not be surprised if Lauren shows up this year on the first Monday in May to make her Met Gala debut.
My favourite celebrity guest last night though? A forever love, the incomparable Kristi Yamaguchi who, just a few weeks ago, also had cherry blossom fever.
