I know it’s the politically correct thing to say – when a new mother steps out, of course the compliments are supposed to follow. She looks amazing, her body looks amazing, amazing amazingness all over the place!

So I understand as I write this that I am inviting your wrath. The MiniVan wrath. The baby-fever wrath. The wrath of women who’ve had children against a foul mouthed baby hating gossip blogger who has never had children.

What do I know?

No. You’re right. I don’t know.

But I do know J.Lo. And I know when she J.Lo tries too hard. And when J.Lo tries too hard, J.Lo doesn’t look like J.Lo.

Check it out – Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony last night at the New York premiere of Shine a Light (Martin Scorsese and the Rolling Stones).

First… let’s clarify. It’s not the dress. Or the body. The dress is wonderful. She looks wonderful in it.

But the face… with her hair pulled back deliberately to make it look slimmer, the dark eyes to make her look more gaunt, the overkill on the shimmer bronzer to bring out some extra glow – it was too desperate. All too desperate. So can we agree she wasn’t at her best? Can we agree she was way closer to her best just 2 days previous photographed in casual gear after getting her hair blown out?

Can we agree on that you yummy mummies?
