Dear Gossips,

Succession’s final award season wrapped up recently at the SAG Awards, though Jeremy Strong, our number one boy, was absent from every show. Jeremy was filming in Toronto last year and then started prepping for his return to Broadway in Henrik Ibsen’s An Enemy of the People, co-starring Michael Imperioli, adapted by acclaimed playwright Amy Herzog. Last night was opening night.

Rachel McAdams was also there in support of Amy Herzog because she’s been in New York working on the Broadway premiere of Amy’s play Mary Jane. This will be Rachel’s Broadway debut, previews begin April 2 and opening night is April 23 which means both An Enemy of the People and Mary Jane will be eligible for Tony Awards nominations. And considering that Amy’s adaptation of Ibsen’s A Doll’s House, starring Jessica Chastain, was nominated for six Tony Awards last year, it’s definitely a possibility for both Jeremy and Rachel.

Theatre, for Jeremy, is not new. But this is new career territory for Rachel McAdams, it’s amazing that she’s taking it in this direction, and working with Amy on such a personal project. Mary Jane is about a single mother who is raising a child with a chronic illness, and the support and community she builds around her to be able to carry on. Amy can certainly relate to her title character – her firstborn, a daughter called Frances, was born with a muscular disease. She and her husband Sam Gold, who directs An Enemy of the People, are still processing their loss. You can read more about their work and their life together in this Vulture profile published a few weeks ago

Amy and Sam are a Broadway power couple. This morning I asked Duana – would it be fair, though derivative, to call Amy Herzog and Sam Gold the Greta Gerwig and Noah Baumbach of Broadway? She wrote back that it’s a “reasonable comparison”. How thrilling for Amy that she’s written two major Broadway productions opening within weeks of each other.

You know who else showed up on opening night for An Enemy of the People? Adam Driver, and these pictures sent me…

Here are the two photos that were taken of infamously press-shy Adam on the red carpet:

He quite obviously did not stop. But he did pose for a photo later on with his wife Joanne Tucker:
