Steven Soderbergh next film is called No Sudden Move. Production is now underway in Detroit and the reason why that’s notable is because, as he said:

“The last time I shot a movie in Detroit with a great script and a great cast things worked out really well, so I’m very excited behind my mask right now.”

He’s talking about Out of Sight, starring George Clooney and Jennifer Lopez – and if you’ve seen it, you know what he means about how “things worked out really well”. Out of Sight is a classic. It’s hilarious, it’s tense, it’s smart, and it’s sexy AF. It also features Don Cheadle who leads the cast of this new Soderbergh project about “a group of small-time criminals who are hired to steal what they think is a simple document. When their plan goes horribly wrong, their search for who hired them – and for what ultimate purpose – weaves them through all echelons of the race-torn, rapidly changing city.”

Apparently George Clooney was interested at some point but that’s not happening now and it doesn’t sound like they need him because in addition to Don Cheadle, Benicio Del Toro is in, along with Amy Seimetz, Julia Fox, Ray Liotta, Kieran Culkin, David Harbour, Jon Hamm, and … Brendan Fraser! Welcome back!

Here’s Jon on Saturday enjoying a day at the beach with girlfriend Anna Osceola before reporting to set in Detroit. In other Jon news, have you heard he’s starring in the Fletch reboot? Some of you who are old enough might remember the Chevy Chase movies from the 80s. Jon told The Hollywood Reporter last month that he’s not doing a Chevy Chase imitation and that his version, which he’s also producing and which will also have comedic elements, will be more true to the books. It’s a really good fit for him and even Tom Cruise is excited. Jon shared that he and Tom were talking about Top Gun: Maverick after the Fletch news had come out:

I literally was just on the phone with, not to name drop, but Tom Cruise called me last night or yesterday because I had just seen a cut of [Top Gun: Maverick], and we were talking and he's like, 'By the way, I can't wait to see Fletch.' I'm like, 'What?! OK, we have to get this thing together.'"

I’m surprised that Jon is surprised. Like, of course Tom Cruise would up to date on casting and development news. He probably reads every article in all the trades.
