Sarah noted the disrespect of the Golden Globes towards Viola Davis in one of her posts on Monday and this is Kathleen’s essay about Viola’s impact on the industry, her incredible body of work, and how she took the opportunity in her acceptance speech to keep shining – from within and also for others, to create opportunity and be the one to light a wider path. (Refinery 29)

James Mangold’s idea for his Star Wars movie sounds fine, I guess. My ambivalence isn't about him or his story, it’s really… too much Star Wars? And I swear, I was a Star Wars person. But there’s maybe too much Star Wars, I can’t keep up. A Star Wars bro would probably say that this means I was never a true Star Wars person to begin with. And I guess so because I’m not offended by it. (Pajiba)

The New York Film Critics Circle Awards happened last night and among those in attendance, Marianne Jean-Baptiste who was not nominated for a SAG Award but is still very much in contention for Oscar. She looks lovely in this black dress with the exaggerated shoulders. Mikey Madison and Adrien Brody were also there but I was most excited about the Igby Goes Down reunion – Kieran Culkin and Claire Danes! (Go Fug Yourself)

My answer to this question is always: slippers. Even in the summer, slippers. First of all, my feet are always cold no matter the season. But also… in Asian households, we are just always in slippers, period. Like to the point where we almost consider it unnatural to NOT be in slippers at home. No socks and slippers? Fine. Socks with slippers? Fine too. Barefoot period and socks period? F-ck no, that’s crazy. (Celebitchy)

Brooke Shields shares a wild story about going in for a medically necessary procedure and coming out with “optimised” labia. Optimised is in quotes because that’s not her assessment of her puss but whatever the male doctor arbitrarily considered to be an improvement… WTF. But, yes, this is a thing. There are people who feel pressured to do LA Face to their vulvas. (The Cut)
