Ben Affleck and Ana de Armas were our first couple of the pandemic. Towards the end of the summer of 2020, however, when Ana joined Ben in Ireland where he was shooting The Last Duel, and they kept a much lower profile, it was Katie Holmes and Emilio Vitolo Jr who entered the romantic spotlight with their frequent New York walks. BenAna is no more…. but Katie and Emilio are still happening. And styling.
Here they are out in NYC yesterday in coordinated coats. You may not think so because one is red and the other is yellow but like ketchup and mustard, these colour and pattern flavours actually work together. The red in Emilio’s plaid pulls out in Katie’s patterned coat. If these two were put together in a skirt and sweater or a pants and shirt combination, for example, it would totally work. This is an excellent statement coat on Katie to add to her already extensive collection.
But the most excellent part of her outfit are the platform loafers. They’re Vagabond, I think, and they’d work with almost anything. With jeans, as she’s doing here, and I’d wear them under a prairie dress, or a short cocktail dress with a pair of tights, neutral or wild pattern. They might even be really cute with the right pair of joggers. Katie’s worn them a few times this month, which makes me think they’re pretty comfortable to walk in. Vagabond actually has several solid styles of loafers and a pretty fun “chunky boot” section that is not unreasonably priced. They’re not $20 but they’re not $2000 either. I’ve never owned a pair but the material looks quite durable and I had my eye on one of their styles a few weeks ago – the “Brooke”, which was sort of a 60s mod vibe – but I sat on it for too long and now they’re sold out. You might want to check out the rest of the line though if you’re in the market.
