It was reported a couple of weeks ago that Keanu Reeves was supposedly in early talks for a role in Marvel’s The Eternals. Marvel boss Kevin Feige is currently promoting Spider-Man: Far From Home and was asked by Comic Book about working with the most popular Movie Star in the world:
“We talk to him for almost every film we make,” Feige laughed. “We talk to Keanu Reeves about. I don’t know when, if, or ever he’ll join the MCU, but we very much want to figure out the right way to do it.”
Feige went on to compare Reeves to Jake Gyllenhaal, saying that they talked to the Spider-Man: Far From Home star “multiple times” until the perfect role (Mysterio) appeared. They’re hoping a similar situation will occur with Reeve, and that he will join the wide world of Marvel when the right role presents itself.
Feige went on to say that there was “nothing specific” for Keanu at Marvel right now. I mean, that can be interpreted a million different ways. And even if there was something to say, they’d hold on to it until the right time. Remember, Angelina Jolie is widely believed to be part of The Eternals but Marvel hasn’t actually officially confirmed it. Weirdly, even though I don’t know sh-t about The Eternals, it really FEELS like the kind of project Keanu would be connected to, non? Mostly because of the director, Chloe Zhao. Not that I know either of them but in my imagination, they totally vibe.
Anyway, as I mentioned yesterday in my post about Keanu, there’s an online petition happening to have him named TIME’s Person of the Year. There’s no way. You know what he’s a lock on for though? PEOPLE’s Sexiest Man Alive.
There is NO ONE ELSE who’d be a more fitting choice, especially not this year. But you know how it works: the SMA has to accept – and there have been candidates, allegedly, who’ve turned it down. Another Canadian, Ryan Gosling, allegedly turned it down. Being the SMA isn’t Keanu’s jam. He doesn’t need it, it’s not like it would boost his career. He gains nothing from the title…except, probably, heat and headache, and as we’ve seen, he doesn’t gravitate to either. That said, Keanu loves randomness. And the reason for his enduring appeal is because he does the thing you least expect. Maybe, hilariously, he’d do it for goofs? Very low odds. About as low as him being named TIME’s Person of the Year.
