The internet this weekend was obsessed with whether or not Kim Kardashian passed the bar (she didn’t). Around the same time the Kim K lawyer discourse was blowing up in my feed, I saw this video of Glen Powell pop up and it’s kinda sorta related.

While doing press for The Running Man, opening this coming Friday, Glen revealed to his co-stars Josh Brolin and Lee Pace that he’s currently a student at the University of Texas and expects to graduate in the spring of 2026.

Like actually studying, six credits a semester, not an honorary degree. First of all, this is such keener, try-hard energy, LOL, and I’m not mad at it. Glen Powell is a nerd, affectionately. He too is a theatre kid at heart, the kind of person who does too much and is never too cool. His mentor, after all, is Tom Cruise, the king of too much.

Second, Glen matriculating properly and, well, whatever is it that Kim is doing, these two concurrent conversations, is hilarious. But also… like… can we take it easy on the “OMG how do you find the time?” praise? I admire Glen for his commitment to getting his degree, but he’s a successful, single 30-something Hollywood multihyphenate with the resources to have a team coordinate his schedule and no children. That in itself is a huge advantage.

In other Glen news, he’s hosting Saturday Night Live for the first time this weekend. It almost seems impossible that it’s taken this long because he has the right vibe for it, for live sketch comedy where the point is not being worried about making a fool of yourself and just going for it. I hope they make a joke or do a whole skit about PEOPLE’s Sexiest Man Alive because, like, it’s right f-cking there. And also I wonder whether or not there will be a Sydney Sweeney cameo. He popped up twice when she hosted last year and she was just in NYC so it’s not a remote possibility. Although the bigger get for a cameo, of course, would be Tom Cruise himself who has never, ever, not once appeared on the show. He almost did though – when Val Kilmer hosted in 2000, he was actually on set and almost did a walk-on but they missed the moment by a mere eight seconds. Would he do it for his protégé?
