Jimmy Fallon called Lady Gaga last week but she wasn’t ready to make her announcement, promising that they’d be ready to roll with it today. She’s curating a television special, in collaboration with Global Citizen and the World Health Organisation “to celebrate and encourage the power of the human spirit”.

One World Together At Home will be broadcast on the iHeartMedia and Bell Media networks in Canada and simultaneously on ABC, CBS, and NBC on April 18, hosted by Jimmy Kimmel, Stephen Colbert, and Jimmy Fallon (and stream online across all major social platforms). All of their shows usually air at the same time so the significance here is that the three late night talk show hosts are coming together during this global health crisis to raise money, to support healthcare workers and front line support, and to uplift spirits.

What I especially love about this is that Gaga and Global Citizen have already raised $35 million. She and Fallon called up Apple’s Tim Cook to confirm a donation for $10 million – and this is the point that she’s been stressing while doing press today, that she will continue to make these asks because on the night of the show, she wants viewers to:

“Put your wallets away ... and sit back and enjoy the show you all deserve.”

The COVID-19 health crisis has also resulted in a financial crisis. So many people are out of jobs. So many people are worried about their jobs. They’re worried about their bills. They’re worried about being able to feed their families. So, yeah, corporations can and should be stepping up, and this is where Gaga is going. If there are people watching that night who are in a position to give – that’s great. But companies like Apple are in a BETTER (way better) position to give. It sounds like Gaga is pushing on that instead of counting on people sending in money from their living rooms. She’s using her influence and her voice to push up and asking her friends to “PULL UP”, as Rihanna urged. Lady Gaga is showing her work. In multiple outfits! She switched up her outfits in all of the video chats I’ve seen of her today so far. I mean, she may be an ambassador for peace and health right now but she’s still an entertainer, after all.
