Dear Gossips,

“Get in there, Lewis!”

Silverstone was like a movie yesterday, a cinematic experience with a Hollywood script (as cameras continued to roll on an actual film being produced – we’ll talk about that later), and a star that seems like he could only exist on the big screen.

But it was real life, and Sir Lewis Hamilton is a real person… although, at this point, and with his record-breaking win yesterday at the British Grand Prix, he now seems mythological.

After two and a half years, on his home track, in his final season with Mercedes, when so many people had been doubting whether or not he still had it…is this a fairy tale?!

That’s what sets people like Lewis apart from others, this is the kind of magic he’s capable of, delivering moments so extraordinary they almost don’t seem possible, like even as you’re watching you’re wondering if it’s really happening. And he’s done it over and over and over again. This is a man who has started almost 350 race starts in circumstances that are especially difficult. He’s been the only Black driver at his level his entire career. He’s endured racism from inside and outside of the sport. He's endured skepticism over the last two and a half years about whether or not he still has it. He’s endured haters claiming he was just coasting through the season until he goes to Ferrari and even then, there are those who think Ferrari made a mistake in signing him. To say nothing of the self-doubt. Which he alluded to a little yesterday in post-race interviews – how hard he’s been working since his last win, and how lost he felt at times. But then, ever gracious, he attributed this moment to the fact that “I had great people around me”.

Which, of course, includes his family (I got weepy watching that long hug with his dad) and also … Bono!

My favourite steady presence on Team 44, however, is ROSCOE. Check him out, front and centre, during the celebration.

And travelling by VIP helicopter, then being carried by his human afterwards and getting comfort kisses.

Deserved! Because he took credit for the win, LOL.

Roscoe’s a king too!

Yours in gossip,

Lainey
