The Freakier Friday premiere happened in Hollywood last night – and it’s a big pop culture deal because of the success of the first movie, a surprise hit in 2003, igniting Lindsay Lohan’s celebrity momentum. Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen and Mean Girls would follow the next year, making her a proper movie star.

“Movie star” is key to this discussion because while we’ve seen Lindsay at movie premieres over the last few years, Freakier Friday is a studio theatrical release and it’s been a minute since she’s opened a movie at the cineplex. This, then, was an extra special occasion for her. She has spent years rebuilding her career, and goodwill in the industry. She’s made several successful Hallmark-style romcoms, kinda working her way back to bigger projects. She will turn 40 next year, she’s married with a child, her life is a lot quieter now, much of it is spent off-camera. And now she’s ready for this moment. The moment required a dress.

But before the dress, you need a stylist. Given the stylist, her dress for the premiere makes even more sense: Lindsay is working with Andrew Mukamal who was the most noteworthy stylist in the game exactly two years ago this week when a little movie called Barbie premiered. I’m sure you remember.

Now two years later, he’s put Lindsay Lohan in a Barbie dress.

This is Miu Miu, very Barbie but also very princess, which is fitting because once upon a time, Lindsay Lohan was the princess of Hollywood – and she’s returned to reclaim her tiara. This, to me is what the dress is trying to say, and I like it. It’s an excellent choice for the occasion and all the significance it carries.

Can we talk about Manny Jacinto now?!

He plays Lindsay’s love interest in the movie and he looked hot AF last night in a tight shirt under a jacket worn over his shoulders with a slight flare in the pant leg. Here’s Manny talking about what a mindf-ck it is for him to be starring in the sequel having watched the original movie all those years ago.

We need more Manny! Hollywood, please give us more Manny!
