Margot Robbie’s wardrobe for the Barbie press tour has become legendary. But let me just say this right now: IMO the wardrobe that Andrew Mukamal has put together for her for the "Wuthering Heights" press tour is better. Barbie was great, but I can’t say that any of the looks were big swings. We know what Barbie looks like, her fashion isn’t risky – but some of what we’re seeing on Margot is going for it. Not safe, not true classic “glam”, and also so much fun playing with the Victorian gothic without looking like you’ve walked out of a museum. In fact, it’s the way the period pieces are crossing different periods, of a specific olden era but also a recent olden era.

In his music column this week, MC talked about how the 2000s sound has been making a comeback. Margot seems to be tapping into that with two of her most recent outfits.

The corset over the low rise black leather pants she wore in London is… well… it’s giving Britney, bitch.

I asked MC for a reference because his brain is basically a Britney library and he sent me this:

Britney Spears

And there’s the archival Dior by Galliano Margot wore for the photo call today. First of all, this is just a masterful pull, period. It works with the film and her character and the theme but is punky and subversive, naughty and kinda twisted, like the story. And… again… even though this was from a collection in 1992, it reads 2000s. Paris Hilton, Gwen Stefani, Lindsay Lohan, Britney, low slung booty shorts and feathered cuffs… I am obsessed.

After all the excellence we’ve already seen, what do Margot and Andrew have planned for the big London premiere?!

PS. I mentioned the other day that everyone I know who’s seen the film has talked about the insane chemistry between Margot and Jacob. Early reaction from critics is now being shared – everyone is talking about how horny and hot and campy and extra and BIG this movie is. Big in a way that’s different from Barbie but similar in the sense that the main interest will be coming from women and girls and the gays. This is the audience that Margot served with Barbie, this is the audience that’s been eating well over the last couple of months with Heated Rivalry and Wicked before it and The Summer I Turned Pretty and, and, and, etc etc etc. Trust me there will be so much crossover here. This is also the audience that it not traditionally been considered high value by the industry. Are we sure about that?
