Maude Apatow made her directorial debut at TIFF and her red carpet looks with stylist Mimi Cuttrell have been really strong. There’s a really delicate 1920s feel but it doesn’t look like she’s going to a Great Gatsby theme party.
Season 2 of Nobody Wants This is set for October 23rd and the expectations here are huge. But the sophomore slump in TV is real (we all ignore the “Landry killed a guy” season of Friday Night Lights) and I feel like there’s so much awareness in this writers’ room (you know Erin Foster is all over the comments). Some shows are really good at leaning into the meta commentary of the fans and this could be one of those shows.
As much as I’d love for this to be real, it’s a clever joke: Mark Zuckerberg was at the Oasis show and Liam did tweet this but not to Zuck (it was a long time ago). But I’d like to think the sentiment stands.
The best interview going right now that isn’t making the headlines it should be: Gwyneth Paltrow on The Cutting Room Floor. It has little to do with Gwyneth Paltrow, who wants to pat herself on the back, and everything to do with Recho Omondi. She is an outstanding interviewer. She asks the questions we want to know, including digging into specific questions like, why did you write these specific articles. There were many questions Gwyneth couldn’t answer or stumbled over. Her generic statements about health were not just accepted, they were analysed from different angles.
About goop’s wellness recommendations, Omondi asks, “When are we well?” That is such an important question and the answer is clear; to people who sell the wellness industry, women are never well enough. On detoxes, Omondi tells Gwyneth, “It’s been 20 years, you are clean.” LOL.
Rhode has reportedly had the biggest brand launch ever at Sephora and I know Hailey Bieber inspires a certain kind of vitriol online but the products not selling out in a day means they were ready; this is a good thing from a production standpoint. The point is to sell products, not acquire a wait list (which Rhode has done in the past). Also the pineapple cleanser is great, if you are interested in a new face wash.
Sofia Coppola is a Chanel girl through and through so a collaboration makes sense; she is working on a photo book and makeup. Her name is actually on the product packaging, which is very unusual for Chanel. They have brand ambassadors but they don’t typically put anyone else’s name on their products; they don’t ask celebrities to “design” for them. I don’t even think Chanel has monogram options.
