Megan Thee Stallion and Glorilla’s manufactured beef
Fans are speculating about what the future of Megan Thee Stallion and GloRilla’s relationship will look like after an apparent beef between their stylists seems to have poisoned the relationship between the women, which up until this year was quite amicable. If you recall, Meg and Glo have worked closely together in the past, making hits like “Wanna Be” and “How I Look”. And in 2024, the pair teamed up for the 30-stop Hot Girl Summer tour and grossed $40 million doing so. But with Glo now aligning herself with Meg’s former stylist, things are up in the air.
Back in 2020, Meg and her former stylist, EJ King, went their separate ways. Though he claimed it was amicable and that it was a mutual decision, a video he shared at the time certainly alluded to something untoward happening behind the scenes – and fans believed their breakup had something to do with the Tory Lanez shooting. After EJ was subpoenaed to testify for the defense, it came out that his testimony did not align with Meg’s account of what happened that night, so it wasn’t really a shock when they stopped working together.
"I want to do more TV, I want to do more for me, for my brand. I don't want to work under somebody. I never want to work for someone who makes you feel like what you do for them is disposable," he said. "When you work for people, personally, sometimes they like to forget that you are your own person. I provided a service."
At the time, social media users were either expressing support for Meg, saying it was good that she was tightening her circle, some didn’t feel like he said anything wrong, and others were just glad that she’d be getting a new stylist because EJ, and I quote, dressed Meg like “Nacho Libre”. I love the internet.
But the most current beef may not just be stemming from the hostility between their stylists – and might be part of a larger pattern in which Glo has committed some pretty serious transgressions against Meg.
Back in May, news spread that they had unfollowed each other on social media. On May 20, Meg called Tory a “demon” in a TikTok post suggesting there was new evidence in her case that proved his innocence.

And the very next day after that, Glo used a song of Tory’s to accompany an Instagram story. Following this, Meg swiftly removed a post wishing Glo a happy birthday - and any other post Glo appeared in on her feed, for that matter. Shortly after that, Glo took to social media to make it clear she didn’t “do mess”.

Meg and Glo end up following each other again after this incident, indicating that perhaps it was just a miscommunication and they were able to resolve it. But months later in October, Glo made a surprise appearance at Chris Brown’s concert in Atlanta. The context here is that his name got brought up in the fallout after Meg was shot and he had some pretty unpleasant things to say.
Then, just days after appearing with him in concert, Glo showed up to a basketball game with Meg’s former stylist EJ King to support her boyfriend, Toronto Raptors player Brandon Ingram. While EJ is said to have been styling her since at least November of 2024, this public appearance seemed to be making a statement, likely because of the heightened attention she already drew to herself performing with Chris Brown.
In a lot of ways, showing up to the game and sharing photos of her and EJ King together is the third strike. Meg fans are no longer just speculating whether Glo was being shady – they’re convinced of it. And Glo seems to have confirmed it herself when she liked a tweet by an X user that said Meg was just “bitter” that Glo had outsold her. And that sent the internet into a tailspin.

Since then, this unconfirmed beef among two artists, one of whom has said absolutely nothing on the matter, has now become an unfortunate example of the atrocities that can take place when the world pits women against each other. There has been an abundance of body shaming, for example, the return of the discussion and speculation about whether Meg has had lipo. And people have always had a lot to say about Glo’s appearance, and we’re seeing that ramp up in the wake of all of this. Of course thanks to ruthless and anonymous stans who take their parasocial relationships and allegiance to celebrities way too far, every single time.
I think it’s interesting that we rarely see this with men, beefs that capture this much attention. Unless perhaps one of the men involved is 50 Cent – and at this point, how low he’ll go is a part of his schtick. But when you think back to some of the most high-profile rap beefs – or just beefs between men in general –attacking someone’s physical appearance just doesn’t seem to be as prevalent as it is with women, and so much of it is actually fueled by female fans. As volatile as the spat was between Drake and Kendrick, people, the artists included, were pretty good about not dragging the artists looks into it. But for some reason, when it's women, we move so quickly past the music and go right for the jugular.
And the music would’ve been a fantastic place to make an argument from, particularly with Glo liking the shady tweet about outselling Meg. In 2024, Glo did in fact accumulate the highest first-week sales of any album released by a female rapper that year, according to VIBE. But a few months earlier in July, Meg’s self-entitled album launched at #1 on Billboard’s Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart. Both of these women have a lot to celebrate and are each making history in their own way. But you’d never know that based on toxic fans fanning flames of a manufactured beef. And I say manufactured because even after all this, the women are still following each other on social media. That’s saying something.
For the most part, Meg appears to be choosing peace. And given all that she’s been through, it makes sense that she hasn’t responded or expressed any shade on social media in response or retaliation. Instead, she’s living her best life. She celebrated Hottieween over the weekend benefitting the Pete & Thomas Foundation. And she is crazy in love with her boyfriend Klay Thompson, who she recently moved in with. With everything that she’s been through, she knows what’s worth her energy. Let’s give these women some space to decide whether the issue is what fans are trying to make it to be – no matter how certain they are what it appears to be.
