The Wrong Girls, directed by Dylan Meyer, and starring her wife Kristen Stewart alongside Alia Shawkat, opens this Friday. It’s about two women, firmly in their 30s, who are firmly stoned all the time and therefore find themselves in a whole ass mess. As Dylan said, there are not enough movies with women who are deadbeats as adults. But also, friendship.

I can’t wait to see it and I also love how the press tour is going. That is, when you’re promoting a movie about friends who are f-ckups, you basically have permission to be unserious. I mean, Kristen was on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon last night and it was a standard network late night TV interview but she and Alia were also in an official media situation where they were asked to demo how they roll a joint. The most serious thing about this is how seriously sexy KStew is, her body language, how comfortable she is. And then the hilarious bit at the end when these two clowns light up and are quickly told to cut that sh-t out.

There’s also their interview – it barely counts as an interview, LOL – with influencer Natasha @natashahasthemunchies. Alia and KStew went to K-bbq on a gummy. Can we have a word on Korean BBQ? It’s one of my favourite food groups, because it’s a full-service experience. The meat is great, obviously, but it’s not just the meat, it’s the banchan or the side dishes that come as part of the meal – kimchi, kongnamul muchim (beansprouts), Gaji namul (eggplant), Gamja Jorim (potatoes), kkakdugi (daikon), those are some of my favourites. And in the past refills were free. But there are places popping up here and there that are charging extra for them, both in Korea and across the diaspora, because everything has become so expensive. There was a big conversation about this in Korea earlier this year. I f-cking love banchan, sometimes I eat more banchan than grilled meat. Banchan and steamed rice is a perfect meal for me, and I often just go to the Korean grocery store to buy banchan so I’m not bothered with an extra charge but this is my privilege if I’m dining out at K-bbq. It’s an interesting discussion about how culinary culture might be evolving in response to economic volatility. And by the way, if you live in Toronto, and you love kimchi, my #1 go-to spot for a jar of take-home kimchi is Mama Lee’s at Kimchi Korea House. And the spicy chicken bibimbap is my go-to order, FYI for those of you who might be coming here next week for BTS.

Now back to the lesbians at K-bbq, where KStew was recognised from Twilight by the staff and surrounded by banchan and basically talking nonsense…it’s multiple worlds colliding in the safest most fun non-toxic way possible.
