Anne Hathaway: A Menace to Makeup
Dennis the Menace is an old person’s reference and nobody under 30 knows what this is, but it’s the nickname our makeup artist, Shaby, has given to me and Liz Trinnear at ETALK because we are the two faces who cannot be trusted to protect her work once we leave her chair. At least once a week on set Shaby will turn away from us and come back a minute later and have to fix something because in those 60 seconds, Liz and I will have either eaten something or smashed our faces into something or broken out into a full sprint over some nonsense and Shaby will have to get our brushes back out and make the corrections. Turns out Anne Hathaway might be a makeup menace too.
But before we get to that, here’s something I wish I didn’t know: after images from her appearance at the world premiere of The End of Oak Street were shared on Sunday, some people on social media accused her of faking her pregnancy because the bump “didn’t look real”, WTF.
One of the low points in gossip history – there are so many, I know, and I contributed to some of it and I’m sorry but not this one – was when famous women were being accused of faking their pregnancies. Katie Holmes, Beyoncé, and Meghan Markle have all been through it, it’s absurd. And we are all stupider for it.
Anyway, Annie addressed it on socials, and for the people who were showing their asses about this in the comment section, it would have actually been funnier and perhaps even more plausible with all those baby robotic dinosaurs hopping around at that event, to wonder whether or not Annie will be birthing one. They’re so cute! And now I’ve probably angered Sarah because she’s written before that dinosaurs are not cuddly pets but dangerous beasts.
Hopefully we’re now done with the idiocy and we can return to the makeup. Because Annie also shared a video of herself in the chair, menacing her makeup artist, but getting away with it – not just because she’s so cute but also because… it’s also promotion for the movie.

There’s a difference between the difficult one who squirms around in the makeup chair on her phone obsessively watching BTS edits and the sweet one who squirms around in the makeup chair and hitting all her marketing targets. That’s why Anne Hathaway is a menace but also the teacher’s pet.
Here’s Annie at Jimmy Kimmel Live! yesterday in a mullet ruffle blouse over trousers, both by Lein. The pieces are beautifully made, there’s no doubt about the quality, but it comes with a very high price point. Hilariously, you can find very similar – at the opposite end of craft and quality but also price point, not at Lein but at Shein.
