Natalie Portman is currently in New York, seen on the set of Lena Dunham’s Good Sex. There was a bidding war over the film a few months ago with Netflix coming out on top in a $55 million deal for Lena to write and direct and Natalie to star in a story about a couple’s therapist, Ally, in her 40s who also starts dating when her long-term relationship comes to an end. “Ally finds her life pulled in opposing directions as she falls into a steamy fling with a 20-something Brooklyn hipster just as she begins a promising, more conventional relationship with Alan, a successful 50-something in Manhattan. As a romantic crossroads blossoms into a full-blown identity crisis, Ally juggles to keep these two very different men separate and to make sense of her own conflicting desires before she risks losing them both.”

This sounds like it lives in the same lane as Materialists and Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy (a movie I loved) and that’s great – we want more of them, we want more of them. There is an audience for them. I am the audience for them. And also intriguing because, of course, this is art imitating life in Natalie’s case as she’s in her 40s, got divorced not too long ago, and is back on the scene. Which by no means makes her unique. There are so many women in this age range who are single now, who are navigating dating in the digital era. Why shouldn’t they see themselves in these stories, and not just one story.

But also the Lena Dunham factor. She’s polarising AF, I get it. But she also is a provocateur. If she’s making a movie about a woman in her 40s called Good Sex, I’m in… because let’s not forget, this is the same person who, in Girls, gave us the ass-eating scene, maybe my favourite scene of the entire series, LOL. Oh… you forgot?

While You Watched the Golden Globes, Allison Williams Got Her Ass Eaten

Lena Dunham knows what she’s doing, titling her movie Good Sex. She’s setting the expectation: let me see the good sex in a rom-com!

As for who’s playing the 50-something love interest opposite Natalie, it’s Mark Ruffalo. If I wasn’t in before, I’m all the way f-cking in now. Her younger lover is Tucker Pillsbury aka Role Model.

Now let’s talk about this outfit, the excellent khaki dress Natalie has on. Because coincidentally I just did a fitting and tried on a khaki dress that’s almost exactly like the one she’s wearing. This Zara dress is very similar, I might even like the Zara more than Natalie’s because the sleeves are fuller and there’s pockets.

But I actually have my eye on two other khaki dresses that, for me, are superior and better quality. Like this Frame khaki dress that is gorgeously constructed, the tan is so rich, the sleeves are the perfect length. Yes, it’s pricier… but it’ll be more durable.

And Veronica Beard has an option too with versatile sleeves and no belt, which I prefer, BUT it looks like they’re out of sizes because it’s on sale… but but but… there are other colours, and I think I might want the navy more than the khaki. The navy here is not on sale but the black one here is... and it’ll work for every season.

Please note that the above Frame and Veronica Beard are affiliate links.
