The 78th annual Cannes Film Festival is underway, and already, we’ve seen fallout from the new dress code banning “nudity and voluminous outfits” on the Croisette. During yesterday’s jury press conference, Halle Berry said she had to change her dress, from designer Guarav Gupta, because it had a huge train.
Instead, for opening night she wore a striped Jacquemus gown:

The jury looked incredible together at the premiere of Leave One Day—the first film directed by a woman to open Cannes—led by Juliette Binoche in a hooded Dior ensemble featuring surprise pants.

The opening ceremony included awarding Robert De Niro with an honorary Palme d’Or, which was presented by Leonardo DiCaprio. Quentin Tarantino was also on hand, he was posing very normally and not all like prom with his wife, Daniella, on the red carpet.

The new dress code cost us Halle Berry in a big gown, but it did not stop Bella Hadid from wearing a gown with cutouts and slit clean up to her hip. Never change, Bella! Except her hair is blonde now and I almost didn’t recognize her (I fear I am easily tricked).

Bonus points for the excellent earrings. Eva Longoria and Julia Garner also had strong looks on opening night, but honestly, no one topped Juliette Binoche in that hood. She looks luminous, like a space queen seeking refuge on our planet before returning home to save her people with the friends she made along the way.
