Walton Goggins hosted Saturday Night Live this weekend, the penultimate episode of the season. His new sex symbol status became a recurring theme, and I enjoyed watching him both flex and mock himself at the same time. You could tell he was all-in on the experience from the jump, that he was very much committed to the comedy, and that he was having a great time. It’s just… at least to me… the actual amount of time was an issue. Arcade Fire seemed to go on and on, especially their first set. And Update seemed really long too. Heidi Gardner, Mikey Day, AND Marcello all came on to do bits. Maybe it was their last chance ahead of next week’s season finale when Colin Jost and Michael Che will likely run their “read jokes the other wrote” tradition for what’s reportedly the very last time, given the speculation that they’re leaving the show.

Anyway, the point is, because of all that non-Walton time, even though he made the most of his time in the sketches, I don’t know that he was a huge presence but I also don’t think that was about him, specifically, because they took some big swings with some high concept skits that, for the most part, worked well. Will be interesting to see if he ever gets invited back – and if so, how soon. Here’s Walton today with his wife Nadia Conners.

As for gossip, there was no mention of Aimee Lou Wood, nor did she make an appearance. Scheduling-wise, it might not have worked because on Friday she was in London, shooting what’s reported to be a commercial with Patrick Schwarzenegger. Last week at the Met Gala, Aimee had only good things to say about Walton. She talked about how working with him was “the best thing ever” and that he would be “incredible doing SNL” and that “he’s going to be hilarious, I’m so excited to see it”.

And also basically said that people on socials were clowns.

“I learned people are quite bored and analyze social media way too much. You just can’t really engage too much. It’s very good to learn boundaries.”

As they say on social media though, these two will never beat the allegations.

What else happened today…

The Cannes Film Festival kicks off tomorrow and it’s just been reported that the Cannes fashion police might be on patrol. They’re discouraging nudity and big ball gowns. Wonder what impact that will make on how many sheer dresses we’ll see. I’m not a fan, I’m not mad about this from a style perspective, but the big ball gown ban is weird. The issue is that big dresses take up too much space and can cause delays. But if there’s any festival that’s a Spectacle of Extra, it’s Cannes. Cannes is about excess, to the point of tacky. We want these people to go full Euro cheese on that carpet – why are they trying to dump on our fun? (The Hollywood Reporter)

Juliette Binoche is the jury president at Cannes this year and she was seen arriving at the airport in an amazing coat and sweater. (Go Fug Yourself)

Angelina Jolie also has a role at Cannes this year – she will be a godmother. Her next project, which she shot last year, is a French film called Stitches. There’s some business behind this decision too. (Celebitchy)

Every time I opened Netflix this weekend they were trying to get me to watch Nonnas instead of Forever which is so weird because I’m not sure the algorithm full understands me? Not that Nonnas wouldn’t be my thing, considering how many Korean food shows I watch, but I also am big on romance so you’d think Forever would be at the top. If you’ve binged Nonnas, let me know what you think. You already know what I think (courtesy of Duana) of Forever but if it wasn’t clear… I LOVE IT SO MUCH. (Pajiba)

Speaking of Forever, here’s showrunner Mara Brock Akil on making the story Black. (Refinery 29)
