Dear Gossips,

Olivia Rodrigo is hosting Saturday Night Live this weekend and she’s also the musical guest. At the box office, The Devil Wears Prada 2 is opening and is projected to open at around $75 million dollars for the weekend, although some people think it’ll go higher, as do I … because it is the first movie made for a female and queer audience to kick off summer blockbuster season, instead of superheroes and stories with big stunts, run fast jump high, cars go boom.

So in her first SNL promo, it was a crossover: popstar meets Miranda Priestley… only not necessarily the most obvious Miranda at Studio 8H but a very good imitation. It’s the voice modulation, LOL.

SNL promos have been on another level this season, non? Good ideas executed very well with game hosts, curious to see how this carries over for Olivia on Saturday night as she continues promotion for the new album, you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love, coming in June and led by the first single “Drop Dead” which I love, because as I told MC as soon as I heard it, Olivia’s 90s pop-rock sound and general energy is always giving 90s movie montage, and I live there full-time.

This just in, Olivia announced this morning that she’s going on tour, not really a surprise in these times since album releases are usually accompanied by live shows.

As for The Devil Wears Prada 2 – it’s been weeks of promotion as planned by the studio but this is a freebie from SNL, because not even they can ignore the ubiquity Miranda, Andy, and the return of Runway. But also… SNL is legacy media, and The Devil Wears Prada 2 is a tribute to legacy media (some of us who have worked in legacy media have described it as triggering, even horror LOL) and there are layers here to those connections in terms of their value to pop culture. Sarah’s review of the movie will be posted tomorrow.

Yours in gossip,

Lainey
