Olivia Rodrigo made some real girl power history over the weekend at the inaugural Daisy Chain Fields festival in Irvine. It’s her answer to the legacy of Lilith Fair that Sarah McLachlan founded back in the 90s. More than 45,000 fans gathered together to celebrate female empowerment, through music, and also to bring awareness to important issues affecting women and girls around the world. Performers included Olivia herself, Chappell Roan, Bikini Kill, Doechii, Garbage, Mitski, Rachel Chinouriri, Santigold, and more. Not to mention the legends who joined Olivia on stage during her set and gifted us with maybe one of the most iconic pictures in musical diva history, definitely in the singer-songwriter territory at least.

That’s Sarah McLachlan, Alanis Morissette and Stevie Nicks in the same photo. It takes an artist with some serious intention to be able to pull something like this off, and Olivia is that girl. Shirley Manson from Garbage said in an interview on the festival grounds that Olivia called each artist personally and asked them to take part. This festival is more than just a performance - it’s living proof that what Sarah hoped to accomplish with Lilith Fair was accomplished: to inspire future generations of female artists and to encourage those artists to carry on Lilith’s spirit of solidarity, integrity, purpose, and of course fun. As a descendent of that mission, Olivia is walking the walk and talking the talk. During the press conference at the beginning of festival weekend, she was joined by executives from each of the ten organizations that took part, where she announced that through Daisy Chain Fields, she would be making a donation of $10 million to said charities. This number would later be doubled thanks to Melinda Gates. Some of the causes include Baby2Baby, National Women’s Law Center, Planned Parenthood and more.

The festival grounds were bright and hopeful - complete with booths for information on each organization taking part, a “wish tree” where fans could leave their wishes for the future of girlhood, and Drew Barrymore on location to interview Olivia for a future segment on her talk show. Both Drew and Olivia wore daisies in their hair and if there’s a flower that best captures the girl vibe of the 90s that Olivia’s embraced 30 years later, this is the one.

Olivia’s efforts were a smashing success, taking over social media feeds all weekend long and creating lasting moments that will be taught in music history university classes forever. Here are five highlights from the 2026 Daisy Chain Fields festival – and don’t worry, if you didn’t make it this year, Olivia has confirmed it will return next year.

Olivia Duets With Stevie Nicks

The heart and soul of the festival was when Stevie Nicks joined Olivia on stage for a rendition of “Landslide”, a track that is universally beloved, but then add in the sweet harmonies of both Olivia and Stevie and it’s new magic from old magic. But also… Practical Magic? Sandra Bullock seemed to use the performance to hint at some major news related to Practical Magic 2.

Sandra didn’t specify whether it would be a new collaboration between the two or if it’s some of their own individual songs, but either way, we can expect to hear them in the movie. If it is a new collaboration then it has Oscar showdown written all over it. Stevie had two songs on the soundtrack to the first Practical Magic and those songs were collaborations with Sheryl Crow, who at that time in 1998, was at the same point in her musical career that Olivia is in now (three albums down). It would be so incredibly poetic if they continued that tradition but with Olivia and Stevie. Stevie is no stranger to movie and TV witches either, she famously guest starred on a few episodes of American Horror Story: Coven back in 2013.

In addition to joining Olivia on “Landslide”, Stevie also took the chance on stage to give Olivia her flowers for pulling off such an ambitious project. I don’t know about you guys, but if I was on stage with Stevie Nicks receiving praise like that from her, I would just about faint. This is the type of sh-t that ends up in a documentary two decades down the line, and if anyone ever doubted Olivia’s status amongst the future legends of music, this moment is something to use as a point of reference.

Melinda French Gates matches donations

Remember earlier when I said that Olivia made a donation of $10 million through the festival? At the beginning of her set she brought billionaire Melinda French Gates on stage to announce that that the contribution would be doubled, making the final number a whopping $20 million.

What was already an incredibly generous and monumental gesture suddenly became twice as impactful, and watching the announcement unfold in the middle of the biggest set of the night is one of those moments that puts the entire festival into perspective. We’re not just watching your average popstar stepping on stage to promote her new album but rather we are reminded of what someone of Olivia’s stature and influence can do with those powers.

Olivia and the Canadian Icons

As if Stevie wasn’t enough, Olivia’s set was also blessed with guest appearances by two Canadian icons: Sarah McLachlan and Alanis Morissette. The significance of Sarah on that stage is as poetic as can be given her title of Lilith Fair founder. Daisy Chain Fields is the fruit of Sarah’s labour and the direct result of the work she did back in the 90s to fight for women in music. Together, the ladies performed “Angel” and “Building A Mystery”, and used the former as a way to pay tribute to Dolly Parton - there was not a dry eye in the entire crowd.

At this point it seems like Olivia is collecting her legend co-signs like infinity stones because then came Alanis Morissette for a groundbreaking duet performance of her generational hit “Ironic”. The industry allyship between Olivia and Alanis has been written since the beginning of Olivia’s career – I mentioned it back in June when Olivia first released her latest project you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love. Olivia even shared a clip of the performance on her socials saying that Alanis was basically her favourite artist of all time. As much as the two of them together is a moment for the culture, it's also a moment for Olivia herself and the teenage girl who fell in love with Jagged Little Pill. I wonder if she knew how much of an impact she’d make on teenage girls just like her one day.

Doechii in Pink

The entire day leading up to Olivia’s headline performance was filled with grand moments including Doechii who performed spray painted in pink from head to toe. Like every crack and crevice was covered in pink body paint. I don’t want to think about the nightmare it was for her to wash it all off after, but I can certainly say that she slayed. It’s been a minute since Doechii performed on stage; after a monster 2025, she’s been keeping a relatively low key profile this year. At least on the performance front.

Doechii had the crowd in the palm of her hand, reminding all the haters who love to throw the term “industry plant” around that she’s not just a fluke and she’s here to stay. There’s a great moment that has been making the rounds online of Doechii and Chappell Roan backstage kiki-ing with each other and gagging over one another’s looks. Chappell shared a photo on her socials from Doechii’s set saying “u don’t get what this was like to see in person. Jaw on the floor”. One tweet said in response to their meeting that they were the “two most important lesbians in the world” and that made my gay heart smile.

Chappell’s The Fifth Element Look

Finally, we have Chappell Roan’s show-stealing look that was inspired by The Fifth Element. The original came from the Jean Paul Gauthier futuristic flight attendant uniforms worn in the 1997 film. Chappell’s version was styled by Genesis Webb and rather than using the original light blue colour theme from the film, she wore a purple version to go with the aesthetic of the festival. To finish the look, she traded in her signature curly hair for a sleek bob that was giving Posh Spice circa 1997. Clearly Chappell got the 90s memo that Olivia has been repping for years now. I have to say, this might be the best look I’ve seen on Chappell Roan yet. It’s still campy but with a hint of high-fashion sophistication.

Chappell, just like Doechii, has kept a low profile for the majority of this year and this is her first time performing in more than six months. I can’t think of a more fitting place for her to return. She performed all her hits and did so with a little extra zest which she attributes to the fact that the performance is entirely for charity. It’s important to note that every single one of the incredible ladies who took the stage this weekend waived their performance fees so that the money could go to the causes at hand.

Now that the first annual Daisy Chain Fields festival is complete, Olivia has laid the groundwork for something that is sure to shine brighter and grow bigger with every year to come. She’s already starting the new week with a cover feature in the October 2026 issue of  Vogue Philippines where she talks about Daisy Chain Fields and her upcoming world tour in support of her newest album which begins at the end of September. This is only the beginning of what’s already been an incredible album cycle for her as she continues on the path of becoming a future music legend.
