Dear Gossips,
The US Open started yesterday in New York City and… Naomi Osaka is doing something different, some might say radical. All season we’ve seen Naomi throw down a look for her first match – beginning at the Australian Open in January when she turned the tunnel walk into a runway with a custom set. And then most recently at Wimbledon with a British Vogue photo shoot before the tournament, followed by the on-court debut of her custom fit.
But now? Now she’s approaching the US Open like it’s a press tour. Now it’s more than just the first round match fashion moment…
It’s also practice. Like the way an actor has a whole wardrobe planned out for specific appearances, photo calls, interviews, etc before rolling out a movie. The first match is now the premiere, but ahead of the premiere, there are other opportunities to showcase the serves. Naomi is fully styled, with accessories, for practice.
The fit for second practice is my favourite so far – archival D&G and it’s not just how she looks, it’s also the captions. She’s turning this into a whole catalogue.
While the D&G is pretty inaccessible, her look for third practice is still available. This is the Eulalia Chiffon Mini Dress (affiliate link), it’s pricey but not batsh-t crazy, and the colour is spectacular on her.
As noted, all of this is leading up to tonight – her first match, US Open, Arthur Ashe, prime time. It’s one of the highlights of the sport: tennis in New York summer on a warm summer night under those big lights. Exactly like a premiere.
