Spencer opens today, currently sitting at 84% fresh at Rotten Tomatoes so it’s a matter of whether or not audiences will show up as an alternative to Marvel’s Eternals to boost Kristen Stewart’s already robust chances at an Oscar nomination. And as we have seen, she’s been working it.
For most of this press tour, Kristen’s style choices have been either princess or punk princess, a fashion balance between the person she’s playing in the film and her own personal aesthetic. But earlier this week Kristen hosted the SiriusXM Town Hall with Joan Jett, who Kristen played several years ago in The Runaways, and the outfit was more punk less princess in Joan’s honour - a standard black blazer over a white tank and lace leggings:
I like the pink lining that you can see with the rolled-up sleeves. I also like that the blazer is sized up, intentionally, so that the look is less polished, falling off her shoulder.
But I also love that she wasn’t precious about keeping the blazer closed. Because once she opens it, we can see the full effect of the leggings and the black underwear:
It’s risqué but not scandalous, it’s sexy and edgy, it’s sensual but also aggressive – Kristen often plays with these ranges in her clothing, and they almost always work. Definitely works here.
