Sarah just emphasised the word five (FIVE) in her previous post about the Gotham nominations and how many more months there are in this award season, LOL. I mention this because, sometimes, by the end of it, you can tell how long it’s been on the faces of the actors who are out there campaigning. And, yes, of course, I know that campaigning for an Oscar isn’t hard, like mining, or social work, but there is an emotional cost to having to the whole process.

For those of you who prefer to stay home and dread the idea of a party (I’m looking at you, Sarah), you understand a little perhaps about what it might be like to go to parties as part of your job, most nights out of the week, for literally months on end, and making small talk.

All of that is now starting for Paul Mescal. He was in London for the Gladiator II junket this weekend. Today he’s in Australia for the premiere, arriving at the airport with his guitar, sparking speculation that he might be preparing to play Paul McCartney in Sam Mendes’s Beatles biopics. Paul was recently asked if this was true and he said that “I would love to be involved, but there’s nothing set in stone”. So it’s not a yes… but it’s not a no.

I am well aware of the way the internet, and many of you who visit this site, feel about this man. The thought of him Beatle-singing and whatever is probably going to end you. But pace yourselves. As I just said, Paul is going to be very, very visible over the next few weeks and maybe months as he goes for another Oscar nomination for his performance.

My thirst for Paul is relatively new. It started a couple of weeks ago, when I posted about his cover feature in GQ and how well he understands the assignment. The assignment is understanding what this movie is and who it’s for: the bros and the girls and the gays, young and mature, dads and moms, grandmas and grandpas…everyone. He’s not embarrassed about that ambition, nor is he fronting like it has to be a burden. The press tour, so far, has been FUN.

Here is he laughing about his short shorts with Entertainment Tonight:

And here he is with Pedro Pascal and Joseph Quinn, the Triangle of Thirst Traps, messing around for some good social content:

This is sexy, it’s hot. It’s hot when people are having a good time, not taking themselves too seriously. Jacob Elordi can’t figure this out but Paul Mescal gets it.
