Zach Baron at GQ asked Prince Harry the question of the day: why did you return to England? Harry’s answer is a bit of a word salad and he mirrors the interviewer and says that their attitude has changed (“they” meaning him and Meghan) and the media landscape has changed. It’s vague.
My interpretation is that he has broken the “invisible contract” and being able to talk about the media, which the royal family cannot do, has empowered them. My more cynical read on Harry is that being a prince in America is a novelty but not a position of that holds any real sway. Harry spoke to GQ to promote his Masterclass, which dropped this month.
Reese Witherspoon has partnered with Mediawan and bought Hello Sunshine back from Candle Media. It’s a surprising turn, considering Hello Sunshine was reportedly sitting at a $900 million valuation in 2021. The partnership between Candle Media and Hello Sunshine didn’t live up to its potential for a bunch of reasons: the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes and the general Hollywood downturn didn’t help. Reese reportedly stayed engaged and involved (several shows did go into production) but there was a nebulous plan to turn Hello Sunshine’s massive following to draw in lifestyle businesses and create a multimedia, direct-to-consumer marketplace.
It’s a lot of buzzy keywords, but the gist is they wanted to sell stuff that falls under lifestyle, which could be anything from candles to clothing licensing deals. Monetizing lifestyle is hard, even for established brands; Hello Sunshine acquired pantry-organizer-to-the-stars company The Home Edit and this year, the two founders bought it back. Between Candle Media and Hello Sunshine, it sounds like there was a lack of infrastructure around building this marketplace.
Netflix has done a massive C-suite shuffle, dismissing Dan Lin (head of film) and Bela Bajaria (Chief Content Officer). This is co-CEO Ted Sarandos’s way of signalling to the board he will turn it around.
I kind of love how people are melting down over Kylie Jenner wearing the Victoria Secret $50 million bra like it’s some sacred garment she hasn’t “earned.” Like Victoria Secret shows are a bastion of meritocracy. It’s the first-ever nepo bra.
Is Nara Smith soft-launching a divorce? I know her husband comments on her photos but she’s 25, classic quarter-life crisis age.
