Jennifer Lawrence is launching her own haircare line. But I wouldn’t be me if I didn’t brag about it first, LOL. Really, though, it’s a compliment about her hair, because back in February 2024 I was already talking about how she’s the only blonde in Hollywood whose hair is so aspirational there should be a haircare line behind it. And a few months after that, in August 2024 I wrote that “JLaw does not have a haircare line. But if there was a blonde in Hollywood whose haircare line I’d be most interested in, it’s her. It looks amazing when it’s blown out. But even here in these pap shots, unstyled and gungy, it’s still the perfect beach wave texture. SO good.”

Now, two years later, she does have a haircare line, and I guess I have to be interested.

JLaw made the announcement subtly, with this post the other day on Instagram, a carousel of some of her past hair tests.

Then she changed the link in her bio, directing it to mes° beauty, “designed by Jennifer Lawrence” and “Engineered by Arcaea Labs”.

Arcaea Labs was founded by Jasmina Aganovic, a chemical and biomedical engineering graduate from MIT. She’s a scientist and now a beauty entrepreneur and recently returned to MIT to give a lecture.

The full video of that seminar can be watched here, it gives you some idea of who JLaw is working with. And if you want more, because I’ve now developed a mild obsession with Jasmina, she just did a GRWM response last week to Pete Davidson and his controversial comments about influencers that is also basically a lecture on the history of the beauty industry.

Jasmina Aganovic is not the celebrity in this story, but she could be a celebrity when we check back on this story in a year or so once her celebrity partnership with Jennifer Lawrence gains some ground. Right now we’re assuming it’s a haircare line because of JLaw’s IG post but officially mes° beauty hasn’t specified yet. More information is coming on October 27. What we do know is that according to Vogue, Arcaea Labs has raised “$78 million in its Series A funding round from investors including Chanel, Givaudan and Olaplex”. So with Jasmina and Arcaea, JLaw is collaborating with an emerging power player in the beauty biotech space in at a time when it seems like their ascent is about to enter its most explosive level.

And for JLaw the timing works great. The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping is coming out in a month, expected to be a huge box office draw during the American Thanksgiving break. It’s a new cast but JLaw’s return as Katniss Everdeen is highly anticipated. She’s likely to be making some public appearances to promote the movie and conveniently show off her hair and her haircare line. At which point we’ll get a pronouncer on “mes°” and maybe that’ll change how I feel about the name because right now I hate it. Is it “mess” with a soft “s” or “mez” with a “z” like “mezzanine”? Or something insane like… “meeee-sss” or “meeee-zzz”. Or is it “m-e-s”? And are you supposed to say the symbol too?! Also it takes forever to f-cking find the motherf-cker in word so I just copy and past the degree ° symbol from google every time I need to use it, and now I don’t know if I should be mad at them for making us work because we are too used to being lazy or appreciating them for making us work because we are too lazy! F-ck you, JLaw, just send me some shampoo and conditioner. I volunteer as hair model.
