We’re just two weeks away from the release of Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy and the return of Renée Zellweger as Bridget, now a widow and single mother, having to manage the school run and the dating apps at the same time.
She and Helen Fielding were at the Paris premiere of the movie last night, accompanied by all their (surviving boys): Hugh Grant’s Daniel Cleaver is back, of course, along with newcomers to the Bridget Jones Universe, Chiwetel Ejiofor who plays a teacher (serious and maybe a little judgy, like Mark Darcy) and Leo Woodall who plays Roxster (unserious and sexy, like Daniel), Bridget’s new younger boyfriend.
Until those two establish themselves, though, which will be after we’ve seen the movie, the money shot here is Renée with Hugh because, of course, it’s the nostalgia, the familiarity, and… well… the Hugh. He doesn’t even look that grumpy in any of these photos, despite the presence of all that pink and purple, and the sparkles, which I’m sure he would have said something about. Maybe it’s because it was Paris, and the studio probably had him in a gorgeous hotel suite, and he would have had a reservation at one of the best restaurants, and it’s not like this man doesn’t like the finer things, while hating the cliché of being someone who loves the finer things.
He can beat himself up over that on the plane when they’re off to the next destination. For now, Hugh’s in a good mood, and hopefully that remains in place during the junket, for the sake of the reporters who have to talk to him. (This is not my assignment, at least I don’t think it is because I’m currently not on the schedule.) Because Bridget Jones is a junket where you want to have some fun with the interviews. After all, Bridget’s a comedy icon at this point – she’s silly and ridiculous and sweet and loveable, and this is the mood you’d hope for while on the junket for this movie. This, however, is not always Hugh Grant’s mood, LOL. Sometimes… but not always. So I can’t wait to see how Hugh gets through this press tour and what kind of sound bites are going to come out of it.
