Friday before Monday: Rihanna and Victoria

On one of the lists of rumoured MET Gala attendees that has been widely viewed online, Rihanna is expected on Monday night. If there is a Queen of the Met Gala, it would be her. And she and A$AP Rocky have been in Paris for weeks, at least partially on fashion-related business since he was just seen at the Chanel Cruise show the other day, and she and baby Rocki have been photographed in a lot of Dior.

This will be Jonathan Anderson’s first Met Gala as Dior creative director, and given her longstanding relationship with the house, if she’s there, it would not be surprising if she’s wearing his work. If. Because we still don’t know for sure, and last night she was still in Paris, having dinner at César, which has been her go-to restaurant on this trip. From what I’ve seen, she’s eaten there at least three times, if not more. This, then, is her Giorgio Baldi when she’s in France. Rihanna is loyal to a menu, I love this about her.

As for her travel plans, it’s not as simple now, even with the PJ, because she has three kids and a whole entourage to consider. And Rihanna has never been punctual, LOL. If she is heading to NYC, how last minute will it be… and how late will she be? It’s basically an expectation for the media now to stay on the carpet well after it closes because they know Rihanna will always be the last to roll up. Sometimes she doesn’t even get to the hotel to start getting ready until an hour into the carpet.

Next up, Victoria Beckham who is not on the rumoured guest list. And she actually hasn’t been to the Met Gala since 2014. Phoebe Dynevor wore a VB dress to the Met Gala in 2024 but VB herself has not attended in over a decade, although Brooklyn and Nicola Peltz Beckham have been as recently as two years ago. Victoria’s a proper fashion designer, and just scored a major win with her Gap collection, who has arguably more reason to show up…but as of yesterday she was in London. Will she go or will she no-show? And as of four hours ago she was in the gym.

With my full ego, I can say that Victoria Beckham has nothing on my hair. And with no ego, I can say that I am married to man who never notices it. So I appreciate David here for appreciating her perfect beachy waves.
