Robert Pattinson and the “crack group of crazies”

Robert Pattinson is promoting Good Time which will be released in the US on August 11. The film was very well received in Cannes with most critics agreeing that this is the best performance of his career. Robert was in New York today and was interviewed by Howard Stern. As you know, if you agree to go on Howard Stern, you know he’s going to go there. So they talked about FKA twigs, even though, as Howard noted, Robert’s “one of those secretive guys, in relationships” – which isn’t Howard’s play at all. When Howard went on to say that he’s all about going out in public with a woman and being seen with her, Robert explained that he would like to be that way as well… but there are some challenges:

"It's one of the most frustrating things in the world, because you want to be able to do that, but to get kind of stuck in a position where, like, you have to make the decision ... Do you want to let, kind of, crazy people in, because for whatever reason with Twilight, whether there’s a specific reason with the audience, there's like, a crack group of crazies who think every decision you're making is creating some kind of conspiracy. And so you kind of think, to protect it, I want to create a big boundary between it, but then it makes it difficult for your actual relationship."

That conspiracy, of course, has to do with the “crack group of crazies”, the TwiHards, who think that he and Kristen Stewart are still together, secretly married, and parents to two secret babies. Almost everyone else understands that this is actually insane. The problem, however, with these people – and also what makes them f-cking amazing – is that they can turn anything into evidence to support their insanity. And Robert, in this interview, inadvertently gave them something to hang on to. Because earlier in the interview, when Howard starts talking to him about his fiancée and asks him if he’s engaged, this is what happened:

“Kind of” engaged. What does that mean? To me, given what he says later about creating boundaries, it means he’s avoided talking about his relationship and is trying to go about it in the most awkward way possible. To the “crack group of crazies”, however, it’s no doubt an ah ha! moment – the confirmation they’ve been looking for that he and FKA twigs are a front to conceal the truth: that he’s with his one true love, Kristen Stewart, and their babies, Bella and Edward. Wait, no. Is it weird to name your children after lovers who were lovers with each other? What are the names of the babies? Renesmee and Jacob?
