Oh, Ryan Murphy, I will always get sucked into your latest torment. The newest show from the House of Murphy is All’s Fair, a legal drama set in a high-powered divorce practice owned by women, starring Kim Kardashian, Naomi Watts (who will also star in American Love Story for Murphy), Niecy Nash, Sarah Paulson, Teyana Taylor, Glenn Close, Judith Light, Lorraine Toussaint, Elizabeth Berkley, and Brooke Shields. However I end up feeling about Murphy’s productions—mostly bad!—I will always give him his due for consistently giving women of a certain age juicy roles. No one else is serving middle-aged actresses as consistently, and this is a particularly delicious lineup. Naomi Watts and Sarah Paulson squaring off? Yes, please.

I am not sold on Kim K as an actress like, AT ALL, but in the trailer for All’s Fair, she’s not ruining it for me. She fits the vibe, and honestly, when it comes to Ryan Murphy, it’s never one performance that sinks the ship, it’s always the writing and plotting. Will Kim bother me more when I try to watch full episodes of All’s Fair? Maybe! But I bet the writing and/or plotting do me in first.

The series is coming to Hulu later this year, and as I always do with Ryan Murphy, I will give it a shot and see how far I make it before I simply cannot stand any more. I like the premise a lot, of a group of lady attorneys opening a practice and destroying chauvinists in divorce court while engaging in their own schemes and dramas, too. As mentioned, the cast is incredible, and the show looks great, with the kind of “no one dresses like this or lives like this” fashion and production design I’ve come to expect from Ryan Murphy shows. It’s half the reason I keep watching his shows, they just LOOK so good. (I will never get over the IV bags on Doctor Odyssey being shaped like little “O”s. An unserious ship full of unserious people!)

But before All’s Fair debuts this fall, Kim is in Paris, where the trial regarding the 2016 hotel robbery, in which she was held at gunpoint, is taking place. Kim testified yesterday in court. Everything I know about the French legal system I learned from Anatomy of a Fall, which is to say I know nothing except that the French legal system seems kind of wild (says the American with no leg to stand on). But I hope she gets some closure on what has to be a scary chapter.
