Kathleen, our Senior Young People Expert, posted about Sam Smith and Brandon Flynn earlier this week because they were apart for Pride and I was wondering whether or not that was a sign that it was over. My exact words were:
“I don’t know how the youth code works but in my day? This meant FREE TO F-CK.”
But Kathleen was all like, what? Sam’s on tour and Brandon wanted to be with his friends and just because they weren’t together for Pride, it doesn’t mean they broke up.
Well.
The obvious lesson here is that I don’t age and that clearly I’m younger than Kathleen. The Sun is reporting that Sam and Brandon have indeed split. Sam’s apparently deleted photos of Brandon off his IG.
A source close to the Brit said: “Sam and Brandon had a real whirlwind romance. They really fell for each other. But they are both so busy with their careers and unfortunately things just haven’t worked out. Sam is obviously devastated. This is the most significant relationship he has ever had. Thankfully he is on tour across the US at the moment which has been a welcome distraction.”
And a reader called T wrote to tell me that at his Boston show Sam was talking to the audience about “going through a tough time”. He was also engaging a lot with his band and seeming to lean on them for support. This is what I don’t think I’ll ever sh-t on where celebrities are concerned. We all know what a breakup feels like. And we’ve all had to go to work after a breakup. It’s hard enough as it is in your cubicle. Having to get up on stage and let it all out there is an exclusive celebrity downside.
