And Just Like That Cat

And Just Like That… season 3 is filming now in New York. I didn’t f-ck with Sex and the City and I don’t f-ck with And Just Like That… but I DO love cats, and Carrie Bradshaw is a cat lady now, so I ALMOST care about this show. 

SJP was photographed on set with the cat, who is called “Shoe” on the show. Shoe is a great cat name, A+ job And Just Like That… writers. Shoe’s real name is Lotus, and he came from the Connecticut Humane Society, and was fostered by theatrical animal trainers before finding fame. The cat distribution system is at work, because SJP has since adopted Lotus:

It’s been a good couple weeks for Hollywood cats, between Lotus/Shoe and Frodo the cat in A Quiet Place: Day One. Director Michael Sarnoski did a whole interview just about Frodo, who was played by two cats, Nico and Schnitzel (also great cat names). It’s basically the only way to work with cats on screen. They’re not trainable like dogs, so you get several cats with different inclinations and lean into each cat’s quirks to get the action you need. Yes, I have asked a professional animal trainer about this, why do you ask. Of course, Lupita Nyong’o adopted a cat last year, and it turns out it was Day One that helped her embrace her inner cat lady. Dogs get a lot of attention, and they deserve it, they are, collectively, the goodest boys. But it’s nice that cats are having a moment in the sun, even though Shoe’s human is the utterly awful Carrie Bradshaw. Shoe deserves better! Justice for Shoe!
