Sarah Michelle Gellar’s been making headlines this week while promoting Ready or Not 2 because of the Buffy reboot. Duana addressed this in her manifesto the other day and the only thing I have to add is that Variety ended up publishing an “exclusive” about the Buffy situation that put the blame on Chloe Zhao’s experience in film being a hindrance to her ability to direct for television – according to their sources. Ohhh, OK, of course. Blame the OSCAR-WINNING female director who has now directed Best Actress Oscar winners, go f-ck yourself.

Respect to Sarah Michelle Gellar for making this a conversation. She could have avoided it, not wanting to affect the project she’s currently promoting. But she decided to use her time in the spotlight instead while also focusing on Ready or Not 2 which is tracking to a decent to strong opening at the box office on good audience scores from previews.

SMG is now in London on the press tour, in curtain bangs (which I’ve finally been able to achieve in my own life) and seen today in a navy cape style dress which is totally in my wheelhouse. Cape-swing dresses are staples in my ETALK wardrobe because they’re roomy on the body but show a lot of leg, this is my signature. There are so many options out there right now because of spring, and I’ve tried on and also worn a few already for the show. These are the ones that our stylist, Simone, pulled for fitting just this week. And, honestly, all of them in my opinion are preferable to SMG’s because I don’t like how hers tapers at the leg. To me it restricts movement which is the whole point of a cape-swing.

The Revolve Nelly Mini Dress is pretty much a classic. High collar, lots of movement, sheer sleeves, and a ruffle at the hem. You will wear this year after year, it will never go out of style.

Reformation’s Torin Dress is similar, just a bit more simple, but it comes in ivory, such an elegant shade. I really liked the clean lines of this one on my body and I had my hair in a ponytail the day I tried it on and the effect was so fresh and polished.

Anthropologie’s version doesn’t have as high of a collar but the added detail is in the sleeves and how they cuff at the wrist. It was a close call for me between the two and ultimately I went with Reformation but I was quite taken with the dreamy boho vibe of the Anthropologie.

I already wore the Banana Republic Cotton Poplin Trapeze Mini Shirt Dress in black gingham before I left for the Oscars. I really enjoyed the length of the sleeve, the drop waist, and the pockets. This is a keeper, can’t wait to bop around in it in the summer with a pair of sneakers, it goes everywhere.

Mac Duggal is the priciest option on the list but the brand specialises in capey swing dresses with all kinds of prints and embellishment. The florals here are just so pretty. There aren’t many sizes left but if you poke around the site (through our link please, it would help us a lot!) you’ll see so many similar versions.

And to end, two slightly longer cape-ish style dresses:

The Reiss Royal Ballet Batwing Dress is on mega sale right now, under $150 from over $500 and she’s sexy and perfect for a summer party. I personally wish it came in a different colour but this dress is ideal for vacation season and she doesn’t take up much space in a suitcase. A go-to dinner piece, like Amal Clooney vibes.

Finally, the Noss Asym Mini Dress – high collar, asymmetrical, drops straight from the shoulders, and feels so great grazing your skin. Also great to bring on holiday. I LOOOOOVE this dress so much.
