Every headline about Savannah Guthrie this year has been horrible. I don’t think I need to explain why. Obviously she and her family will never recover from what happened – on top of the loss of someone so dear, there are so many unanswered questions, so much that may never be answered. This is not a mystery game for Savannah and her loved ones, it is real and probably permanent, and checking the Reddit boards, for them, is not an option, it’s not the healthy option. Because to the people for whom this was a tragedy, the people who are actually involved, they have to try to find a way forward, to live even more fulfilling lives since they’ve seen, far too up close, how unpredictable and fragile life can be.

It is wonderful, then, that today’s headline about Savannah is good news for her. As she said, "It kind of feels strange to do everything right now, but this is something that's full of joy." Great. Let Savannah have any and all the joy that she wants in her life. And, maybe, joy in this form is exactly what she needs: hosting the Wordle game show.

Apparently they’d been developing the show for a while, and were supposed to shoot in March, delayed for obvious reasons.

"We've been working on this for a really long time, and actually we just found out in February that we got picked up and we were supposed to shoot in March. And I just want to say a quick thank you to NBC and to Jimmy [Fallon] and his production company and the The New York Times and the studio and Universal because when everything happened with me and my family, they just stopped everything and said 'We'll wait for you.' And Hollywood is a really tough business, and I didn't expect that, and I just want to say thank you, it means so much to me."

You know why I love this for her? Apart from the fact that she’s perfect for a nerdy little show about five letter words? That there will always be an answer. I really, really hope it heals something in her.

As for the game and how it will work – it’s a team game, you can enter here. I play Wordle every day, and I consider myself pretty good at it. There are a lot of celebrities who play Wordle too. Matt Damon and Ben Affleck famously have a Wordle group chat, I think they all do Spelling Bee among them too and it’s quite competitive. If this really takes off, they should do a celebrity version or, better yet, have the celebrities go up against the normies.

What else happened today…

Speaking of Matt Damon, he hosted SNL this weekend and, as I mentioned a few weeks ago when it was announced that he would be back at 8H, Brett Kavanaugh came with him. Matt as Brett might be my favourite Matt. (AV Club)

OMG I love this dress on Allison Janney and it’s kind of a swerve for her because I typically associate her with a more statuesque, column design. (Go Fug Yourself)

Now that she’s checked off The Devil Wears Prada sequel, Anne Hathaway’s return to Mia Thermopolis and Genovia should be that much quicker? Unless Hollywood studio executives remain stupid about the audience that is ready to give them money. (Refinery 29)

Benedict Cumberbatch wasn’t on my “which celebrities will get into road rage incidents” bingo card. (Celebitchy)

Prom is becoming the Met Gala and now I wish I could time machine back to my prom and do it all over again and be extra as f-ck. (The Root)
