Intro for December 8, 2025
Dear Gossips,
For months now we’ve been covering the bonkers-in-the-best-way that Timothée Chalamet has approached the Marty Supreme press tour. And the fact that he’s doing it during award season, as a contender, but largely staying away from the campaign circuit and the usual campaign activities, has made it that much more entertaining. Not that Timmy isn’t doing the most. It’s just that his version of doing the most right now isn’t at all prescriptive. And he’s not centering his Oscar chances with his moves. This is 100% for the movie. Somehow he’s stunting and still not compromising on his sincerity about how much this film means to him, how much he believes in it – not only in his performance but in the work as a whole.
Observing it from social media is one thing. Seeing it up close is entirely its own experience which is what happened on Friday night, as I’ve been in São Paulo for the last few days covering CCXP with ETALK. If there was any doubt about his status as the Movie Star of his generation, the screaming took care of that. They love him in Brazil, like at a rock god level. And it wasn’t just fangirls but also nerds and cinephiles, because this is the crowd at CCXP, the biggest fan convention in South America, and now that I’ve been there, I would argue that it might even be bigger in scale than Comic-Con. What was most insightful to me, as a student of pop culture, is that in observing his appearance at this event helped verify Timothée Chalamet’s broad appeal. He doesn’t just hit with western English-speaking audiences, he doesn’t just hit online either. His fame is digitally and tangibly borderless. And he has the uncanny ability to go megaviral, almost at will. I’m sure you’ve seen the moment:

Then he took his jacket off, threw it into the crowd, and grabbed a homemade flag of Brazil with his face on it. At this point my watch kept telling me that the noise level was a health hazard. Then he came onto the Thunder stage, which is the CCXP equivalent of Hall H at Comic-Con, and jacked them up all over again.
I don’t know what the effect of all this stunting is on Timmy’s social battery, what he has to do to recover from how he performs his celebrity, but I can tell you that when he’s in the moment, he doesn’t look, not for a second, reluctant or uncomfortable or anything but fully present. Nor does it ever seem contrived, pre-rehearsed, inauthentic. Everyone was having a good time, but he was having the best time. And that too is one of the keys to his popularity: Timothée Chalamet does not hate the spotlight.
The Golden Globe nominations will be announced this morning, probably will have already by the time you read this. I’m writing this hours ahead but I have no doubt Timmy’s name will be called for the third year in a row. What’s interesting about this year and how the Globes nominations will be split is that in previous years, most of the serious Oscar contenders come up in the drama categories… but Marty Supreme and One Battle After Another will be contending at the Globes in the comedy category, alongside Wicked: For Good, setting up a potential showdown between Timmy and Leonardo DiCaprio, with Ethan Hawke perhaps coming in as a spoiler.
We also might see how the Globes, always good for some nomination f-ckery, will try to get Kim Kardashian into the party. This is always the most unserious award show of the season but the Globes do have an impact on subsequent nominations during the race. There is no doubt that Timmy will be a factor, which means Kylie Jenner could be going to the Globes for the third year in a row too. Will she have her sister joining her there this time? More on the Globes nominations later today.
Final note on Timmy – he might not win best actor this year, but he will probably repeat in another award category that at this point could mean more to him, LOL.
Timothee Chalamet is a serious threat to repeat as White Boy of the Year in 2026
