BLACKPINK is preparing to drop their first full length album in October. The first single, “How You Like That”, is already a smash hit with the video generating hundreds of millions of YouTube views. The group has been teasing the follow-up single for weeks. It’ll be released on August 28. They’ve been teasing a collaboration. And a couple of weeks ago, rumours surfaced that it’ll be Selena Gomez. At the time, BLACKPINK’s label, YG Entertainment, neither confirmed nor denied the speculation.
Now we know. It is indeed Selena. Both BLACKPINK and Selena posted the news on social media.
Blinks are mind-blown, obviously. This is a big ass deal with the combination of both of these fanbases, not to mention the looks that will be served. The aesthetic that BLACKPINK threw down with “How You Like That” was already, according to Vogue, a “runway fashion extravaganza”. They won’t be dialing that back for this new track. It’s just a matter of how Selena will be incorporated in the video. If anyone has the tech for it, it’s the people of South Korea. They’re fully capable of making it look slick without having Jennie, Jisoo, Lisa, and Rosé in the same room as Selena. I can’t wait to hear every note, study all the choreo, and break it all down frame-by-frame, analyse every stitch, every shoe, ever eyeliner flick, every eyelash. In the “How You Like That” video, BLACKPINK’s makeup artist, Maeng, put small silver individual lashes on her bottom lid that caught the light so beautifully, I can’t wait to try it out. Can you see?
Maeng also works with my current obsession, Seo Ye-ji, from It’s Okay To Not Be Okay. I’ve been stalking her eye makeup through the series. The shimmer on the eyes is f-cking gorgeous and I’ve been sourcing the products, they’re on the way. Will post about it after I play around and figure it out.
For some reason, I have never been as into makeup as I am right now during this lockdown. This new BLACKPINK and Selena song is going to give us so much to work with.
