Amanda’s surprise endorsement
Amanda Seyfried is currently – and enthusiastically – campaigning for an Oscar nomination for her performance in The Testament of Ann Lee, and she’s picking up momentum at exactly the right time as SAG nominations voting begins today which can be an important factor leading up to the Academy Awards.
Last night Amanda was at the LA premiere of the film and on Friday there was a private screening, hosted by Selena Gomez. It’s a classic style of endorsement at this time of year and at this time during award season, but Selena’s name probably wouldn’t have been at the top of my list for campaign support for this particular film.
There is a connection though, just not super obvious. The Testament of Ann Lee is directed by Mona Fastvold and co-written by Mona and her husband, Brady Corbet whose film, The Brutalist, was a major player in the Oscar conversation last year. Brady’s 2018 film, Vox Lux, starring Natalie Portman, was actually inspired by Selena after seeing her on tour in 2016. And last year there was this cute moment between Selena, Brady, and his daughter at the Golden Globes.
Selena is rather selective with her time, so the fact that she chose to show up for Mona, Brady, and Amanda is pretty notable.
What else happened today…
Every year at Christmas I want to go to the movies to see something silly. This is one of the reasons why you’ll never make me hate the Jumanji remake starring Dwayne the Rock Johnson, Kevin Hart, Karen Gillan, and Jack Black. I love it, I’ve seen it probably ten times, LOL, and I’m not ashamed. The secret might be Jack Black… because I’m expecting the Anaconda remake with Jack and Paul Rudd to hit the same way. I can’t wait to see this movie. How did they turn it into a comedy? The premiere was last night too. (Go Fug Yourself)
My crush on Josh O’Connor is intact after he hosted Saturday Night Live this weekend. He is adorable! And I f-cking love that sketch with the “sensitive” sweater strippers. (Pajiba)
Rhea Seehorn is finally having her moment – and hopefully it lasts a few decades. Vulture just profiled her and this photoshoot is excellent, she is SO sexy. (Vulture)
We couldn’t get to the end of the year without a celebrity talking, again, about how infrequently they shower. This time it’s Mila Kunis. (Celebitchy)
In addition to Paul Dano, Quentin Tarantino also disrespected Matthew Lillard. And then Ryan Reynolds put him in a commercial and got him paid. This is a pretty quick turnaround – I mean it’s not a complicated production, but Ryan’s Maximum Effort got that going fast. (EW)
