Emma Stone is ARMY
In addition to Bad Bunny’s performance at the Benito Bowl on Sunday, one of the big draws of the night is the commercials and the celebrities who will be featured in them. Emma Stone has landed a commercial and on top of getting paid (I feel like her deal is huge since she’s not a super endorser/influencer and also they’re using her actual name for it, so there’s likeness and licensing and all kinds of other value-adds on the table), she’s also benefiting from the fact that this is award season, she’s been nominated (again) for an Oscar. So it also works for her campaign, even though this year she’s not really considered a frontrunner and can kind of just enjoy the whole circuit without the pressure.
Emma’s partnership is with Squarespace and a 30 second spot will air before Benito’s performance. The full length-version has been shared online, featuring Emma becoming increasingly unhinged because she’s not able to secure the domain name for EmmaStone.com which, because of this commercial, she now owns. So that’s another bonus but it’s crazy that she never bothered to secure it before.
In an interview with Rolling Stone to promote the commercial, Emma says it’s unlikely she’ll actually do anything with her website but probably knows that by now it’s just better to park it and have it rather than to have to fight someone for her own name later on.
Interestingly enough, though she says she has no interest in launching any kind of lifestyle endeavour, and doesn’t post on social media, she does reveal that she’s on Substack because that platform is bringing her back to the blog times:
“I was such a blog reader for so long. It was like my favorite thing, and so now I’m truly one of the Substack freaks. I’m spending a lot of money on Substack. I like a lot of fashion content. I like creative writing. I like a little bit of the gossipy stuff. Sometimes I really like to read, so I like a lot of substance. It’s a nice nighttime, wind-down activity. But because I loved blogs so much, I’m like, ‘Oh, we’re kind of back.’ It’s not just captions anymore!”
Ummm….hi! Your girl is an OG blogger! And we are also on Substack at The Squawk. For those who, like Emma, want to read more than just captions!
As for what she’s listening to these days…
Kpop Demon Hunters gets a shout-out. Apparently her daughter is obsessed with Huntr/x but even if her kid wasn’t around, Emma says she’d be all over KPDH and this tracks because Emma Stone is, among her peers, one of the first A-list Hollywood celebrities to be onto K-pop. I’ve written about this many times before – like this post back in 2024 – so let me just advance-gloat before TikTok acts like this is a revelation. Some of us were well aware that Emma Stone has been appreciating K-pop. And she is ARMY, as she tells Rolling Stone:
“I absolutely love K-pop, and one of the coolest experiences ever was I hosted SNL and BTS was the musical guest. I’ve never heard pandemonium like that at SNL. People were sleeping on the street for like days to get tickets for the show. It was unbelievable. And so, that was what really kicked into high gear my passion for BTS. I very much would like to go see them [on tour].”
Heads up to the director at the Oscars – when EJAE, Audrey Nuna, and Rei Ami are performing “Golden” on that stage, Emma will be a good candidate for a cutaway, she’ll know all the words.
