A Very TNT Engagement

Everyone knows this by now because I saw the news on Instagram literally five minutes after she posted and when I checked by eight minutes later (haha that adds up to 13) there were 1.3 million likes. At this rate she might break an Instagram record. 

It’s Taylor Swift, obviously, announcing her engagement to Travis Kelce. My working theory, after knowing this for just 15 minutes, and not having read any other reports at any other outlets, is that she was surprised. For me… it’s the manicure. 

Those are not the nails of someone who was expecting to be proposed to. Yes, I have zoomed the nails. They do not look like an intentionally “natural” finish. They look like they’re just not done – and if she had had anything to do with the planning, her nails would be a lot more presentable. We’d get a lot more finger photos. 

Also, the lighting would be better. Remember how well she was lit on New Heights? The lighting in these photos … is not to her standard. It was a professional shoot, organised by him, sure. And probably in consultation with Tree Paine but he was the lead architect… 

Because, and this the most important point, in the storybook that she would write about her proposal and engagement, the Prince Charming would be the one to plan all of it – that’s how you treat a Princess. 

Is it corny? Of course.

Taylor Swift has never not been corny and also cringe, these are her signatures. The fact that she’s found someone who worships her for all that corn and cringe, and matches it, to the point where he designed a fantasy woodland scene in which to ask her to marry him just proves it. 

This is the most TNT engagement she – and we – could have ever asked for.
