Teyana Taylor was recognised as Billboard’s Women in Music Visionary this year at the event last night and showed up with her family in an Ashi Studio dress that was embellished with clusters of hair. I didn’t even clock that at first, I thought it was just whatever attachments but if you look closely, you can see the strands.

And then, of course, the braid at the back.

For me, though, it’s the shoes. Pink satin, ballet and boots, a bitch to walk in but SO good. And, of course, perfectly paired with the dress and the whole Les Misérables vibe to it, at least that’s what I’m seeing.

Like EJAE, Audrey Nuna, and Rei Ami, Teyana has had A YEAR, coming off the success of One Battle After Another and her overall pop culture takeover. And we’ll see her again on Monday because she is one of the members of the Met Gala host committee which means she’s pretty much guaranteed to make an appearance, but I do no want to see her hosting the livestream again like she did last year. Not that she didn’t do a great job, my point is that she’s graduated from it now – she proved she could do it, she went on to have a pivotal role in an Oscar Best Picture winner, and it’s time for what’s next, which is playing Dionne Warwick … in addition to serving whatever she’s about to give us on that red carpet. Because I imagine every fashion house would have wanted the opportunity to be on her body.

Since we’re talking about hosting livestreams and interviewing people, though, she did not do any interviews at Billboard yesterday, I guess they were running out of time, so you know what she did instead? She just hugged the press line, lol.

As a reporter myself, I’m never going to say I would prefer a hug over an interview, never ever ever. Also I’m not a huggy person. But. This must have been a nice consolation, and she’s a sweetie for doing it.
