Teyana Taylor was in New York last night at the premiere of Tyler Perry’s Straw premiering on Friday on Netflix with Taraji P Henson in the lead role and Teyana as part of the supporting cast. Teyana wore a black velvet body con dress to better highlight this exquisite Schiaparelli belt.
Seriously, she never misses. I don’t even hate those shoes when they’re on her feet.
In other mega Teyana news, a fresh drop! New music and visuals today – “LONG TIME” is from her forthcoming visual album, due out in August. The album is called Escape Room, and it’s not a stretch to assume that the escape room she’s busting out of is her marriage to Iman Shumpert because this divorce has been messy. She accused him of leaking their settlement perhaps in retaliation to her hard launching her relationship with Aaron Pierre and wants the court to find him in contempt. He meanwhile is accusing her of violating their divorce agreement and wants the court to find her in contempt and throw her in jail. And now she’s letting us know exactly how she feels about him and their relationship through her music and music videos.
First of all, as the kids say, this song slaps. I would like almost every lyric on a t-shirt, please. The track isn’t heavy on lyrics but that’s why she makes them count. I have too many favourites to pick one. But this is what she says at the top of the track:
“You know I bring out the best in you, turn into fame while I'm sexing you”
COME ON!
And then the visuals. It’s serve after serve after serve but it’s not just the clothes, it’s her movement. When she’s in the white dress with the white splatter, the way she’s holding her body in that pose and jerking her torso while staying perfectly still below the hips – she’s telling the story with her physique too, of being trapped and coming back to life.
The trap, of course, is, well, it’s obvious who it is but here he’s played by LaKeith Stanfield which is probably the only positive that Iman can take away from all this – to be villainised by such a fine actor – but then again, no one is f-cking thinking about Iman f-cking Shumpert right now when Aaron Pierre is right there!

Someone in the YouTube comments of the “LONG TIME” video below said that “this album is going to be Teyana’s Lemonade” and I understand the comparison but, like, Beyoncé reconciled with Jay-Z at the end of Lemonade. Teyana’s Escape Room will show Iman no kindness. She is leaving him for dead and not bothering with a burial.
