Jimmy Kimmel is on holiday for the summer so there are celebrity guest hosts filling in for him during the break and this week it’s Colman Domingo. Here is an incomplete list of why Colman is the ultimate guest host.

-He’s using this opportunity as a victory lap. Let’s not get it twisted, Colman’s not putting in the work here to benefit Jimmy and his show, he doesn’t owe them anything. This works for him, his career, and for his potential Oscar nomination. Colman’s been in two box office wins in the last three months: Michael and Disclosure Day. Michael, in particular, is a huge hit and Colman is firmly in contention for another Oscar nomination in the supporting category. The Academy has already nominated him twice, they’ve already shown that they will recognise his work. On top of the work he’s done in television, including Euphoria season three – not a critical success but a ratings success. Plus The Four Seasons, since he’s nominated for both series this year. So when he opened his monologue last night with a flex, listing off all his accolades… he wasn’t lying, but it also wasn’t off-putting. It’s an early reminder to voters that he is one of the busiest and most acclaimed actors on a hot streak that started pre-COVID and is still going.

-He came to serve! This polka dot set, with the robe and the jacket inside is FIRE. And he turned his style signature into a bit with Guillermo where the challenge was to produce a glow-up and get Guillermo in a new fit.

-And he made Jacob Elordi tolerable, LOL. Jacob is currently promoting Ridley Scott’s The Dog Stars, opening at the end of August and co-starring Josh Brolin, Margaret Qualley, Benedict Wong, and Guy Pearce. He and Colman know each other, of course, from Euphoria. But also, with Colman’s charisma and energy level, it’s not like Jacob can sit there and brood and only talk about his craft. I mean he does that too, but it’s not too much, and he’s willing to be unserious, since Colman is happy to be unserious, and as a result, Jacob is much more engaging and appealing than I typically find him. Which we credit to a good host, to Colman Domingo, an excellent host.

In other Jacob news, related to Kendall Jenner, she spent some quality time with him and his family in Australia last month. Her family, obviously, is all in on him, and PEOPLE reported last week that she’s “very into him” and that their “energies match”. I feel like I have to hand in my gossip cred right now with what I’m about to say but…um… I see it. It is a good match and no one is more smug about this than Kris because the family boyfriend roster now includes Jacob, Timothée Chalamet, and Lewis Hamilton.

As for how locked in these two are – they were just seen loving on each other with a puppy, no confirmation about whether or not they adopted the puppy together, but even without the puppy, Jacob and Kendall seem like they’re down bad, equally. And again, to me, this is correct. They deserve each other, however you want to read into that.
