Even if you're an entertainment reporter deep in the trenches at TIFF, you've seen the super steamy photos of Timothee Chalamet and Lily-Rose Depp making out on a yacht in Capri last week. The memes are next level.

Their film The King premiered in Venice, thereby missing a festival run in Toronto. Timothee, though? He wasn’t missing anything.

Timothee has no official reason to be at TIFF. But he was first seen in Toronto on Sunday night and word is he has taken in at least two movies so far: the world premiere of Jojo Rabbit and the international premiere of Ford v. Ferrari on Monday night. Obviously, he has a tie to FvF star Christian Bale, via Hostiles. He made a brief appearance at the Joker after-party at Patria on Monday too. But that was a pit-stop before he hit up the Uncut Gems after-party. The WILD Adam Sandler-starring jewelry thriller premiered earlier, got a standing ovation (more on that tomorrow), and also marks The Weeknd's acting debut. So, when Timmy arrived at Arcane around 1:15 a.m., he made a beeline straight to The Weeknd (AKA Abel Tesfaye) to fanboy out about the movie, party, and celebrate the film.

They became the main attraction – at least for me.

Check out Timmy headbobbing to the music in The Weeknd's private VIP section, alongside Adam Sandler, his Men, Women and Children co-star. Abel (I did not see him with a date) had a HUGE grin on his face the whole night, mingled with his co-stars, including LaKeith Stanfield, and seemed to have the most fun with Timothee. When Abel took a sip from what looked to be a Crown Royal bottle, Timothee did too.

You can’t miss that hair. It also happened to be Adam Sandler's 53rd birthday. Here’s Timmy nerding out with the hilarious movie-themed Furby jewelry cake. It's amazing. And he too has his phone up to document the moment.

So he’s here because he’s a fanboy. This should not be a surprise. Remember when he geeked out about his Little Women co-star Laura Dern during the Palm Springs Film Festival Awards Gala in January? Or last year at TIFF, where he snuck into Xavier Dolan's The Death and Life of John F. Donovan world premiere, and had the cutest of reunions with his Interstellar co-star Matthew McConaughey?  When he left Toronto last September, he geeked out over meeting Ryan Gosling at the airport while decked out in a Variety hat, and Plan B sweatshirt. To me, that's total film nerd athleisure goals. Will he be rocking A24 or Safdie brothers merch at the airport this year? A24 wasn’t shy about putting him on their Instagram:

But this is why we love him. He came to TIFF to appreciate other people’s work. He was not here to promote his own work – and when you’re not here for your own work, no one is paying you to be here. Like, 99% of the celebrities you’re seeing at TIFF billed production companies and studios for their appearance and their time. Timmy being in Toronto was on his own time – and dime.
