The site is a bit lighter than usual today because this afternoon I had the honour of hosting the Reel Asian Film Festival’s 3rd annual Fire Horse Award luncheon recognising the achievements of Paul Wong.

As Reel Asian’s Executive Director, Deanna Wong said:

In Paul Wong, the Fire Horse Award jury has chosen a one-of-a-kind artist whose work—which never shied away from exploring his queer, Asian and Canadian identities—has been recognized by his peers throughout his 50-year-plus career. Considering also his tireless community work, activism and advocacy, Wong is truly the embodiment of this award.”

If you are in Vancouver, there’s an event at the Richmond Art Gallery later this month celebrating Paul’s work.

Reel Asian is a community of support for Asian creatives at every stage of their storytelling careers. Today I was able to meet and talk to emerging filmmakers who are just getting their start, while also spending time with those who are further along in realising their vision, like recent Oscar-nominated director, Nisha Pahuja, whose film To Kill a Tiger was nominated in the Best Documentary this year.

And then, of course, there’s Hayao Miyazaki whose The Boy and The Heron just won the Best Animated Feature Oscar a couple of months ago and whose son was in Cannes this week, revealing that he’s now working on his next film, while accepting the Honorary Palme d’Or on behalf of Studio Ghibli. Caftans are perfect for Cannes and Diane Kruger stepped out in a polka dot one-shoulder caftan that I can’t decide if I like because I’m debating the size of the dots. Are they too big? (GoFugYourself)

Andrew Scott talks about the now infamous (?) Tortured Man Club that may or may not have inspired an album. His answer is not controversial or click-baity at all and to do this is a gift, this man has so many gifts. Including making us horny – have you listened to his horny story yet?! (Pajiba)

I was today year’s old when I learned that Queen Consort Camilla watched the first season of Bridgerton and I was today year’s old when I wanted to unlearn it because I do not want to have to think about what she might have thought about “you burn for me?” and whether or not she talked about it with the king. (Celebitchy)

I also just learned that some Swifties are convinced she’s going to be in Deadpool and Wolverine and Ryan Reynolds of course is the perfect person to keep the chaos going. (The Mary Sue)
