All’s Well That Ends Well… in Sacramento
A trailer for the film Sacramento was released yesterday. Sacramento is directed and co-written by Michael Angarano who also stars alongside Michael Cera, Kristen Stewart, and Maya Erskine. I like all of these people and I like the vibe of them all together in a movie about two friends who’ve been growing apart on a road trip in a transitional time in their lives. And, maybe, for Michael Angarano, there’s an added layer of the personal since he and his real life partner, Maya, became parents last year and in the film, it’s Michael Cera and Kristen Stewart playing the parents-to-be.
Sacramento was in development for a while before finally beginning production in 2023, and it’s the project that brought Angarano and Maya together as they first fell in love around the time she was in talks to be in the movie. So while the story may not have been inspired, necessarily, by their relationship, it’s kinda taken on an art imitates life dimension.
But there’s also some gossip history here and it’s making me kinda nostalgic. Because in the way, way back times, Michael Angarano and Kristen Stewart were a thing. He was KStew’s boyfriend when she started working on Twilight, the movie that altered the trajectory of her career. I remember seeing them in Vancouver together while she was filming the first movie. I also remember TwiHards having, um, issues with the fact that they were together because they’d already started shipping her with Robert Pattinson. In those early days, I’d get emails from them accusing me of lying about Michael and Kristen, insisting they were a front to hide the fact that KStew and Rob had already started their relationship.
Kristen was only 17 when she started working on Twilight, so Michael, presumably, was her first love, her first significant romance. That’s already such a formative time in someone’s life, even before you add fame to the equation. It was real but, of course, it could never be permanent. Of course, KStew and RPattz did eventually become a thing… but that doesn’t mean that KStew and Michael weren’t legit. Clearly what they had went deep, deep enough to last, deep enough to be lasting – clearly they’ve held onto the love and respect, forming a friendship that has now spanned over half of their lives.
So I imagine it must be such a joy for them to collaborate on this project, for Kristen to lend her star power to Michael’s second film, and to do it with his life partner, Maya. And now here, put some respect on Michael Angarano’s low-key BDE, because he’s dated two of the baddest bitches of his generation. KStew’s cool is well established but… Maya Erskine? Is world class c-nt of the highest order, get on your knees.
You would have recognised this early with PEN15 but it would have slapped you in the face if you watched Mr& Mrs Smith. Everyone I know who has seen the series goes in wondering what the deal is with Maya Erskine and comes out of it, like at the end of the first episode, being all like…what just happened, what sorcery is this, how am I this in love with her without being conscious of what she was doing. Michael Angarano, though, was ahead of all of us.
